Would the real Texas Womens' Basketball please stand up?
Despite one of the worst jobs of officiating I've ever seen in Big XII competition (think Columbia Missouri two years ago, where the refs did everything but eject VY for unsportsmanlike conduct in their attempt to hand the game to the Tigers), the #22 WBB team upset the #17 Aggies by almost 20 points this afternoon. This, after losing to cellar-dwelling Iowa State on Thursday night in one of the ugliest games in Tiffany Jackson's storied career (3-of-19 shooting, nuff said).
- Texas scored more points (64) against the Aggies than any other team other than Rice and Washington, who both beat aTm in games in early December.
- Texas held the Aggies to their lowest point total total of the season (45) - a score only Kansas State matched, in their narrow victory over aTm two weeks ago.
- The 19-point margin of victory was the largest in any of the four Aggy losses, and ties the largest Big XII margin in the three Texas wins (CU was the other).
- Texas won in spite of several phantom foul calls by this embarrassingly-bad team of officals - two on our leading defender, Erneshia Bailey, and three on our best blocker, Ashley Lindsey, on what were clearly clean blocks.
- In its past 5 games, Texas has lost to two teams it shouldn't have - Nebraska and Iowa State - and beaten two teams it probably shouldn't have - #10 Purdue and aTm. Maddening inconsistency that must be resolved if Texas is to return to the post-season
- Texas is now in a tie for 4th in the Big XII (3-2 record) with the Aggies, Tech, and Baylor, with the Bears coming to town on Wednesday.

Is Coach Conradt reading BON?
Check out this diary from the PHF archives: http://www.burntorangenation.com/story/2007/1/14/85050/8976
Coincidence? I don't think so!
BTW, the Horns are 1-1 on the stretch of games referenced as "murderer's row" on my post, although in exactly the reverse of how I thought the games would go (win at ISU, lose home game to Aggies). Only eleven games to go. Texas must go 6-5 or better in those games to end up with a good enough record to stay in the race for the post-season (I don't consider the NIT the post-season, FYI). That would give Texas a final record of at least 20-10 and 9-7, which may be good enough to finish in the top 4 in the conference and lock down a first-round bye.
Tall order. But if the team that played the Aggies into the hardwood on Sunday continues to show up, it's achievable. We'll find out very shortly, when Baylor comes to town.

New Rankings
Aggies drop to #21, while Baylor holds at #13 and OU inches up to #6. Nebraska - which came back from 10 down to upset Texas on their home court to start the Big 12 season - has joined the poll at #25 for its first ranking of the year, replacing K-State which lost to Nebraska and Baylor last week.

Red Blooded
Man, your ladies had the "unbeatable" Sooners on the ropes last night, and had a small defensive breakdown that let Higgins tie it up as the final buzzer sounded, and lost in double OT. Congrats on an awesome effort. In NORMAN, no less! Here's hoping you take out Female Shaq and her fellow Land Thieves when they come calling in Lubbock.
