Too Funny Not To Post

Not that I have much interest in this story, but damn, this is funny, funny football.

Dumb plays are the norm, it appears.

Didn't even see that!
Awesome.  It's the details that make the difference.

You know,
I never noticed that Reggie's eyes were closed as he expelled the ball from his hands that night.

Now, its entirely possible that this snapshot happens to coincide precisely with a defensive blink of his eyes, but still, what a moron.

Thanks again Reggie.

Am I the only one who thinks it odd
that Yahoo freakin Sports is the only news outlet scooping this story?

What's up with that?

Is there a drop off in ratings when ESPN or SI give negative coverage to LA's NFL team?
Maybe they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

It just seems strange that with ESPN's small army of field reporters someone hasn't, at the very least, fleshed this story out. When it first broke months ago Mortensen and others seemed determined to sweep it aside as nothing.

Holly Rowe spent an entire season on campus with USC last year while this all happened right under her nose, so she is either the worst reporter ever or she spent all her time nursing the mini-bar while watching day time soaps.

I hope they lose it all!  How sweet would 2007 be with OU and SC on probation!!!

He shouldn't lose it.
I don't believe he should lose it but i would understand it if they did strip it from him. How weird would be at next years Heisman trophy "and the 2005 heisman trophy winner is Vince Young". Lets face it Reggie Bush fit the moniker of "best player in the country" even though i loved VY i believed Reggie's "Body of work" was better and he had more highlights.

If they handed it out after the bowl games then without a doubt my boy VY wins and should have won it if that was the scenario but Reggie had the better big game performances and more "Heisman moments". The only VY had was the run vs. Okie St. and the pass to Lime time. That is no fault of Vince because we blew everybody out.

Alot of people say that what a bonehead play it was and i agree it was pretty fucking stupid but if that white guy caught and ran it in that would be the greatest play in college football lore. Without a doubt. That play was also the turning point in the game.

If he doesn't fumble USC probably scores and they probably win. USC was starting to move the ball and they shut out are "O"  but that play gave Texas so much momentum. Most people don't relize how nice and sick the run was before that fumble.

He pulled a nasty cut on Michael Griffin almost like a madden juke. He could have tried cutting back all the way to the sideline and might have gone all the way.

Vince Young is a beast.

You seem to be divided in you loyalties.

My ass
If he cheated then he loses it - plain and simple.  I'd feel that way even if VY wasn't waiting in the wings to take possession.  VY already got the last laugh this year anyway - this would be icing on the cake!

Texas
I cheered for Texas but i like USC as well. I had to think about it for a little because i am big on breaking records and i wanted to see history made. I can't go against VY.

I also appreciated just how could USC's offense. The only way they could be stopped was if they stopped themselves. It was such a well oiled machine.

I'll be honest we ran a pretty primitive and simple offense. I think we ran a backyard football offense. Everybody go long and let VY do something but it couldn't be stopped.

I can't root against VY. I did like Reggie Bush because he was such a great player and you can't deny that.

Vince Young is a beast.

For the amount of posting you do here
i would have imagined you to be a more diehard texas fan than the above post suggests.

That's impossible, DV.  That is like saying, "I pulled for the Allies in WWII but I like the Nazis."  Good or Evil...take your pick!

You Can't Like Two Teams?
Its not like USC is our arch rival. During the season i root for both teams to go undefeated. I like USC but i am diehard Texas fan. Think what you want when Texas loses i am depressed for about a week.

I don't get to emotional about wins because i expect us to win every game but when we lose i go insane.

Vince Young is a beast.

USC and Texas
are like oil and water.  They play two entirely different strains of football.  They stand for two entirely different football value systems.  USC is a glamour, cocky, west-coast, I-am-gonna-try-and-out-score-you-and-try-and-look-pretty- doing-it because I think I am naturally better than you because I am on the left coast.  Texas is southern plains, hometown, smashmouth, beat your ass, we don't give a shit about how it looks as long as we win, trench warfare OG-style football.  As a rule.  I hate Pac-10 football and USC epitomizes it.

by kicker on Jan 25, 2007 6:01 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Don't know about that
SC's first four Heisman winners were tailbacks -- Garrett, [Tailback Redacted], White, Allen. It's the last several years that were anomalous with Palmer and Leinart -- and I'd put money on SC not having reached any championship games lately without LenDale White to get the hard yards.

It may not be a Chevrolet truck commercial, but SC football hasn't been about Chardonnay and fusion cuisine or whatever other flaky southern California image of which you can think (and there are plenty of those, for a reason).

by DC Trojan on Jan 25, 2007 9:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Thats your reason
Wow "OG" style. Then you say left coast. What are you a diehard conservative who hates California because the Republicans tell you to. What a joke. Well i personally hate SEC football because of how they brag about how great their conference is. I'll get in my qualm with the SEC sometime later.

First of all the last time texas was a "beat your ass", "smashmouth" trench warfare was back in the days of the wishbone or maybe the days of the GOAT Ricky.

You may not like it but we play like a Pac-10 team. There is nothing wrong with it. People just have this perception that because they throw the ball and don't play to lose like SEC or plains football that they are soft. Have you seen some of those Pac 10 defenses. UCLA, USC, Arizona, we are a high scoring, throw the ball a ton but we can play good "D" most of the time.

Last year we were a shotgun team which last time checked is not considered smashmouth football. We run horizontally and throw the ball down the field. We ran the i formation once last year vs. USC and it got stuffed and never ran it again. We ran one formation in the Rose Bowl. Three wide Shotgun.

Stop being a hyprocite. Do you hate Notre Dame? Probably not, because Notre Dame is Notre Dame. USC maybe arrogant and cocky at least most of the time they back it up. Unlike the greates hype machine ever ND. Well i hate Notre Dame for an actuall legitimate reason not because of "Pac 10" football. I hate how every year they are overrated. How they have special clause to get into a BCS game because they are Notre Dame.

I hate how their national championships fit the description of a mythical national championship. Because they are Notre Dame they must be good.

I hate how they are going to probably go into another BCS game because they woop on service acadamies, mormons, and Syracuse while getting blown out by Michigan and USC. I hate their "homer" announcers Pat Haden, and Tim Fry. "Brady Quinn is so great i want to marry him" "Charlie Weis what a genius playcaller" they go on and on. I know you are not suppose to be completely neutral but don't be a damn local radio announcer.

Last thing, i hate that complaining, arrogant, fat ass, Charlie Weis. Does he have a legitimate victory no he doesn't. He is the one that thinks he is the shit by running fake field goals with 30 point leads, going for it on fourth down with 30 points no less against the service academies.

He brought out the green jerseys against army. What a class act!!! They usually bring that in a big game but since they can't stay on the field with them they bring against army. Charlie you want a hamburger.

I hate how he people hype him up as the savior of Notre Dame football. Last time i checked there wasn't one of his recruits making an impact this season. I could go on and on about Notre Dame. If they go to a BCS game again we should be marching in the streets.

Last thing your comment Texas is water and USC is oil or something like that. How is it a battle of good vs. evil. Yeah USC is a little bit sketchy but they weren't talking shit beforet the Rose Bowl actually we were because we are smashmouth.

I do like both teams and i can like both teams but the Horns come first. Then USC. Then FSU. Then Michigan.

Vince Young is a beast.

damn son!
alright, point observed.  I did enter a "As a rule" in there.  I am speaking in the traditional almost stereotypical sense.  BUT, yes Texas and the Big 12 (with the exception of Tech) play a different strain of football, which I enjoy more.  A spread offense incorporates a heavy dose of running and horizontal passing (screen) as opposed to the pro-set or west coast offense which is pass heavy.  This is all I am saying.  YES you can love USC and Michigan and FSU, DV.  This is fine and dandy, didn't mean to instigate a lengthy tangent.  And it is noted that you dislike Notre Dame.  We can agree on that.  Cheers.

I'm a bit torn...
I'd love for VY to end up with the Heisman, but at the same time, he'll always have an asterisk next his name.  A win by default seems like less of a win, in my opinion.

My bad.
I apologize kicker and i never thought about the "asterisk".

Kicker my bad dude, like the fact that you hate Notre Dame and i prefer the more not west coast or pro-style but the kind of offense we had in 2001 where it was throw it deep and pound it with Ced. I am more in favor of a under the center, Iformation with three reciever sets.

Vince Young is a beast.

by txlonghorn on Jan 25, 2007 7:10 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

no problem
I am just glad we don't stick to one type of offense and never deviate according to the type of talent we have.  Greg Davis has been pretty good at that if you don't count the whole trying to run Colt in the spread thing.

by kicker on Jan 26, 2007 8:59 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Were you in a coma during 99-03?
"Stubborn resealancy with a commitment to predictable stagnation" is a phrase that sums those years up nicely.

Sure there were flashes of offensive brilliance brought about by either a teasingly rare offensive stratgey/formation (shotgun in Nebraska throwing to Ivan Willams after another loss to you knowU comes to mind as one of those flashes....it's just frustrating seeing what we were capable of afer the most important game of the season), but usually it was just a process of being bigger and faster than 95% of who we played.  The problem occured when we played the other 5%.
