Open GameDay Thread: Nebraska at Texas
Game 9: Nebraska at Texas
Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-4, 1-3) at Texas Longhorns (6-2, 2-2)
Saturday, October 27, 2007 · 2:30 p.m. CT
Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium (85,123) · Austin, TX

Television: ABC
Radio: 98.1 FM / 1300 AM (Austin)

The Longhorns take the field Saturday winners of back to back contests over the conference's two weakest teams; today, they face a reeling Nebraska squad, losers of three straight with a lame duck coach. Three things to look for today:
1. Dictate on offense. This is a Nebraska team which hasn't stopped anyone since USC visited Lincoln and ran for a thousand yards. Yards are there for the taking, but Texas needs to go after them aggressively. Nebraska has shown no ability to stop hard hitting, decisive runs. Let's see if Texas can get that done today.
2. Keep transitioning the defense towards 2008. We've been starting two seniors at safety; given Erick Jackson's mediocrity, the transition to Ishie must start now. When possible, use Curtis Brown and Chykie Brown to complement Beasley and Palmer for '08. With Thomas Marshall out this week, keep rotating in Ben Alexander to join the DT rotation with Roy Miller next year. I needn't say anything about the linebackers.
3. Win and win big. The 'Horns have a chance to finish this season heading in the right direction, but the schedule gets nastier from here out. After Nebraska, Texas closes at Oklahoma State, vs Texas Tech, and at A&M. Ideally, the 'Horns could win out and pick up a Holiday Bowl berth to play what will be a formidable opponent - either USC, Oregon, Cal, UCLA, or Arizona State. All would be a great game to close out '07.

oh lookie, tough smack talk
"Nebraska has shown no ability to stop hard hitting, decisive runs. Let's see if Texas can get that done today."
A hard-hitting, decisive run will be any one that happens after you hand the ball off to someone who's wearing a helmet with a horned cow on it, so don't go making yourselves out to be big, tough hombres just because we couldn't stop a beatle from rolling dung balls down hill.
We suck. We don't care. We hope you run the ball a lot so the game and therefore the season is over faster.
Do me a favor, will ya? Every time you score, just yell "Dead Man Walking" instead of whatever the hell it is you usually yell.
Taking lots of sleeping pills until next season, your friend in football,
Corn Blight.

I want you all
to understand something.
The comment that Bill Callahan is handling his treatment by Husker fans as well as he possibly can is just pure bullshit.
He's handling it like a child. the whole "he's doing excellent", refusing to wear Husker red at his press conferences.
The man is a disease.

This is pretty sad
It's broken records, but they show the replays and you just watch, painfully, as Derry and Bobino run into blocks instead of making plays.
Georgia strikes first
and the ENTIRE TEAM runs to the endzone to celebrate. Interesting device by Mark Richt. Pretty dramatic.
Two penalties assessed
Georgia is kicking off from the 7 yd line.

Did you just SEE that run by Harvin
Oh wait, see that catch by Harvin?
This is a great series
Frightening that Tebow is a running QB
and still has one of the best arms I have ever seen.
by BrooklynHorn on Oct 27, 2007 3:05 PM CDT up reply actions
Frightening he benches over 400 pounds
And coaches have tapered his workouts so he won't get much sronger
And he's a STRONG runner
1st assesment
The horns looked scared. Where was the o-line on the first drive.
Thank god for my boy Foster who stopped that play.

Really Don't Like
the switching running backs every few plays. Doesn't allow either to get into a rhythm. Reminds me of last year with S. Young and JC.
Pick a running back and stick with him. This switching backs isn't helpful at all.
Nice play McGee

Panic on the blitz
Twice now NU has blitzed on third down. Twice we've run terribly afraid passes underneath
we blitzed
holy crap!
we looked like we were bringing the house!
an alien invaded DC Cosgrove's head and is calling the defensive plays!
We HAVE a chance!

our starting right tackle is out for the season, and we're starting a freshman there.
a pass.
I don't think sam keller is capable of throwing the ball more than five yards downfield.
Seriously.

Another unsportsmanlike penalty? I don't even think they care. Their coach doesn't care.

Just saw the Ga team storm the field
Amazing ... never seen anything like that before!
this game is being played nfl style
SLOBBAKNOCKA!
Wow ... that was just 1 quarter of play?
Seemed like enough action for 3 quarters
wow
we've decided that we're going to go down fighting.
I like the blitzing. We're going to pay for it. but I like it. It means we haven't completely given up on the season.
For a while, it looked like we had.

Not handling the blitz well at all. Well, McCoy not handling it well. We're blocking it fine.
we look like shit.
i'm gonna go ahead and stick with the 2 games that have teams that care playing. wake me when our balls drop and we decide to play for our scholarships.
Iowa State

Earlier this week Peter wrote sarcastically
that this should be a dogfight to the end. I agreed, and not sarcastically.
The Nebraska players have quit on their coaches, but the Texas players were never properly motivated by their coaches in the first place.
Horns expected a gimmie game.
I see no intentsity from most of the players. Excluding the few. What the hell McCoy deliver the damn ball.

There'll be some locker room asschewing at half

We never really got Limas this year
With that injury, he wasn't the same. But we have no vertical passing game without him. That plus Colt just not playing well in general and this offense is really, really uninspiring.
Nebraska wants this game more.

Greg Davis reminds me

we got lucky,
great read by the DE
I can barely watch this
McCoy looks terrible and Greg Davis won't run on the 115th ranked rush defense in the country.
I'm beyond confused. This is just stupid.
I agree
we should be able to run the ball on these guys. I think GD has tunnel vision

Next week is LSU at Bama
Announcers
At least a few times after a pass, the announcers have said "Jordan Shipley" before saying who actually caught the ball. What the hell.
No Storm Warning
We can only play Chiles with the freshmen unit.
i'm having
a hard time with this game.
everyone else has made our defense look awful. today we don't look so bad.
are you guys lost too? or are we playing better (up to our potential).
is there some sort of foul play or trickery afoot? are gamblers involved?
does suckage travel from state to state infecting teams on a whim out of boredom with having the same teams win all the time over the past 100 years?

McCoy
I think he thinks he is a better runner than he is. Throw it away every once in a while. Not worth the 1 yard.

I think PB is right - we miss sweed. If Colt can scramble around that long and still nobody's open...this is bad.
Bah
he scrambled around and couldn't find anybody open when he did have Limas. Lets not make excuses.
by BrooklynHorn on Oct 27, 2007 4:09 PM CDT up reply actions
It's not an excuse
Our remaining receivers are solid, but that's it. We can't get separation. Colt's not playing well, but the receivers are a big factor.
we're going to
throw out patterns to Purify the rest of the half.

And what's sad is that this still won't be enough
We'll still listen to people defend Greg Davis after this game, and after the next poor performance, and the next poor performance...

they understand what they've been given right? for free...right? they worked hard to get it...they got what they wanted...and then they stop working hard? i don't understand it. i'm more mad at the coaches for putting them in these situations...but really? play like you give a crap. neither team is playing like that right now.
whatever makes you feel better dude.
there's plenty of kids who play hard every down with half the talent.
Yeah
not the players...its all about the coaches.
There are 4 great coaches slugging it out on the other networks (Oregon/USC and UGA/FLA). It is such a contrast to watch them coach compared to the two staffs on display in Austin.
