Open GameDay Thread: Nebraska at Texas

Game 9: Nebraska at Texas

Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-4, 1-3) at Texas Longhorns (6-2, 2-2)

Saturday, October 27, 2007 · 2:30 p.m. CT

Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium (85,123) · Austin, TX

Television: ABC

Radio: 98.1 FM / 1300 AM (Austin)

The Longhorns take the field Saturday winners of back to back contests over the conference's two weakest teams; today, they face a reeling Nebraska squad, losers of three straight with a lame duck coach. Three things to look for today:

1. Dictate on offense. This is a Nebraska team which hasn't stopped anyone since USC visited Lincoln and ran for a thousand yards. Yards are there for the taking, but Texas needs to go after them aggressively. Nebraska has shown no ability to stop hard hitting, decisive runs. Let's see if Texas can get that done today.

2. Keep transitioning the defense towards 2008. We've been starting two seniors at safety; given Erick Jackson's mediocrity, the transition to Ishie must start now. When possible, use Curtis Brown and Chykie Brown to complement Beasley and Palmer for '08. With Thomas Marshall out this week, keep rotating in Ben Alexander to join the DT rotation with Roy Miller next year. I needn't say anything about the linebackers.

3. Win and win big. The 'Horns have a chance to finish this season heading in the right direction, but the schedule gets nastier from here out. After Nebraska, Texas closes at Oklahoma State, vs Texas Tech, and at A&M. Ideally, the 'Horns could win out and pick up a Holiday Bowl berth to play what will be a formidable opponent - either USC, Oregon, Cal, UCLA, or Arizona State. All would be a great game to close out '07.

oh lookie, tough smack talk

"Nebraska has shown no ability to stop hard hitting, decisive runs. Let's see if Texas can get that done today."

A hard-hitting, decisive run will be any one that happens after you hand the ball off to someone who's wearing a helmet with a horned cow on it, so don't go making yourselves out to be big, tough hombres just because we couldn't stop a beatle from rolling dung balls down hill.

We suck. We don't care. We hope you run the ball a lot so the game and therefore the season is over faster.

Do me a favor, will ya? Every time you score, just yell "Dead Man Walking" instead of whatever the hell it is you usually yell.

Taking lots of sleeping pills until next season, your friend in football,

Corn Blight.

I want you all

to understand something.

The comment that Bill Callahan is handling his treatment by Husker fans as well as he possibly can is just pure bullshit.

He's handling it like a child. the whole "he's doing excellent", refusing to wear Husker red at his press conferences.

The man is a disease.

This is pretty sad

It's broken records, but they show the replays and you just watch, painfully, as Derry and Bobino run into blocks instead of making plays.

the switching running backs every few plays.  Doesn't allow either to get into a rhythm.  Reminds me of last year with S. Young and JC.

Pick a running back and stick with him.  This switching backs isn't helpful at all.

Bah

he scrambled around and couldn't find anybody open when he did have Limas. Lets not make excuses.

by BrooklynHorn on Oct 27, 2007 4:09 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's not an excuse

Our remaining receivers are solid, but that's it.  We can't get separation.  Colt's not playing well, but the receivers are a big factor.

we're going to

throw out patterns to Purify the rest of the half.

and then kick a field goal.

1st Half

Why are we such a bad first half team?

by Texas Wahoo on Oct 27, 2007 4:09 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

did you hear Mark Richt?

He said if his team didn't get a penalty after their first TD he was going to be mad!!

Awesome!

WOW

Who saw this happening at the beginning of the week.

My adopted son Brandon Foster is coming along quite nicely.

I knew it would be close but this is pathetic.

The ineptness on offense is laughable.

My adopted son Brandon Foster is coming along quite nicely.

damnit

the kids i watched play last night in giddings would probably give either of these two shit squads a game.  this is an exercise in lack of effort and horrible coaching.  mack brown is stealing money.

by mattw on Oct 27, 2007 4:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

WTH?

Would someone other than brain dead Greg Davis please call the offense?

by milevin on Oct 27, 2007 4:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

And what's sad is that this still won't be enough

We'll still listen to people defend Greg Davis after this game, and after the next poor performance, and the next poor performance...

We will never get rid of this guy, he'll be in my nightmares when I'm 50.

by BrooklynHorn on Oct 27, 2007 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lets just hope

that this is just another one of those games where we play like crap in the 1st half and explode in the 2nd half.

If we lose to NU... man I don't even know what to say.

tremendously

awful.  Our worst half of football.  Completely anemic.  What the hell has happened to this football team.

When PB wrote

that this will probably be a dogfight, even though it shouldn't, I thought "Yep."

Half this fanbase is in SERIOUS denial about the ineptitude of this coaching staff.

by BrooklynHorn on Oct 27, 2007 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am

we have been absolutely awful.

More than awful. We're historically awful. I mean since 1894 awful on defense. we had a lot of bad teams after World War II. We're worse than them.

I'm shocked. Absolutely shocked.

Finley gets a catch!

Seeing that NU can't stop the run, maybe we should've gone with Chiles.

And now McCoy gets sacked to end the quarter.

no one shouldve clapped

for those losers running off the field.  i hate our pathetic crop of soft scholarship wasting patsies.

by mattw on Oct 27, 2007 4:18 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Wow

This site has turned really negative all of a sudden.  We have sucked in the first half much of the year, I look for us to bounce back and win.  Any win over nebraska is good enough in my book.  I know they're down, but a win is a win in my book.

by Texas Wahoo on Oct 27, 2007 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Is it really them?

Or the coaches and their philosophies?

by goingforthecorner on Oct 27, 2007 4:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

i never understand defending them

they understand what they've been given right?  for free...right?  they worked hard to get it...they got what they wanted...and then they stop working hard?  i don't understand it.  i'm more mad at the coaches for putting them in these situations...but really?  play like you give a crap.  neither team is playing like that right now.

by mattw on Oct 27, 2007 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Um, no

You can't disparage the players like that here.

Consider this a warning.

there's plenty of kids who play hard every down with half the talent.

by mattw on Oct 27, 2007 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

not the players...its all about the coaches.

There are 4 great coaches slugging it out on the other networks (Oregon/USC and UGA/FLA). It is such a contrast to watch them coach compared to the two staffs on display in Austin.

here's what's going to happen

Nebraska will go three and out.

Horns will get the ball with decent feild position.  GD will have all his weapons available, and we'll see three straight runs up the middle for 3 yards total...

John Chiles - I'm your foster daddy!

3 P's: Pitiful, Pathetic, Piss-Poor

If the Nebraska players have quit on their coach, what does this performance say about the Horns?  It doesn't matter who the QB is or how predictable GD's plays are, we should be up by 4 TD's!  We are playing at home against a team supposedly in disarray who has lost 3 straight.  Does anybody, except me, think it might be next year before Brown wins #100?
