EDSBS LIVE Tonight, 6-8 PM

The situation in college football could not be more interesting, both for Texas and the country as a whole. All sorts of scenarios are in play with just two weeks left in the regular season. Tonight Orson and I try to sort through it all on EDSBS LIVE.

If you haven't joined in on the show yet this season, stop by tonight and talk some football. Lots to discuss as the 2007 season reaches its pinnacle.

A couple of topic starters
  1. Vince Young...only #10 on the Top 25 list of greatest college football players of all time. I think BONers are too close to the subject to have an objective debate on this site, but it might be interesting to see what other people think.

I guess it comes down to whether you're judging them on greatest college career overall or simply greatest at their peak.

I'm thinking the organizers of this list went with greatest career overall and you'll see a bunch of four year players above Vince. Still, for my money, it's VY by a mile. If you could only pick one players at his peak, I just don't know of another player who was more dangerous than VY.

  1. There will most likely be an unprecedented log jam of 2-loss teams at the end of the regular season. Some will be ranked above others for what they've done for us lately and some will be ranked because of what they've done for the duration as they'll be ending their seasons on a loss. What's more important? How do you break the tie?

I'm looking at Texas right now in some of the polls (AP and Fan Poll) ranked behind a 3 loss Florida team as well as a two loss USC team while being ranked ahead of a 2 loss BC team and an undefeated Hawaii team. I'm not sure I follow the logic.

I'm a big believer that the only teams that have the right to question their ranking are undefeated teams because they've done everything in their control, but the human factor in all this can be quite frustrating. Though I'm really not miffed by our #14 and #13 ranking in those polls because honestly, who has UT really beaten? It's a good debate and one worth having.

Be nobody but yourself in a world that desperately wants you to be like everybody else.

Not sure if you caught this

But Brent Musburger, during the Tech game, said - upon hearing VY at #10 on the list - "Boy I'd sure like to see which nine are ahead of him. For my money, that's the greatest I've ever seen."

Also, AW and I are going to launch a half hour or hour show here soon just for BON/Texas stuff. Should be fun.

Still, for those around tonight with nothing on the agenda, drop in to EDSBS Live - there's a lot of great stuff to talk about in what's been a wildly interesting year.

Funny

Take all the sportscasters that said Reggie Bush was the best college football player ever and ask him where he ranks now, they put him way lower on the list. Good to know that some sanity was restored on that remark. I'm not saying he wasn't great because he was one of the most outstanding players I've ever seen, but he was by no means the best.

The weird thing is that

I don't think Ricky has been named yet, which means he will likely be ranked higher than Vince on that list. I'd say its a safe bet considering he broke a decades-old all-time rushing record and won the Heisman trophy in a full 4-year career.

But the irony is that I'd bet most Texas fans would vigorously dispute Ricky's legacy as greater than Vince's.

But the.....

......irony is that I'd bet most Texas fans would vigorously dispute Ricky's legacy as greater than Earl Campbell's.

Personally, I'm quite sure Earl's career was better than both.

Vince vs Earl

is comparing apples and oranges - two different styles in two different eras.

But Ricky vs Earl is apples to apples, and I'd definitely go with Earl on that one.

Tommy Nobis

What about Tommy Nobis? Isn't he supposed to be in the top 25 of all time?

In Mack We Trust.
