2nd Half: Open Gameday Thread--Holiday Bowl

After one of the wildest first halves in memory, Texas leads 28-10.

Just think about what we've seen so far: a John Chiles touchdown, two turnovers created by the defense, a third turnover called back after someone from the Texas sideline touched a live ball, a Derek Lokey touchdown, a very aggressive Texas defense, pretty good decision making from Colt McCoy, etc. What did I miss? Oh yeah, Jackson, Muck, and Norton all earned staring nods.

Overall, a very good first half by the Horns, that could have been even more dominant. The defense looks great, especially against the pass and Rudy Carpenter looks totally lost and, honestly, scared. The Texas defense hasn't gotten that much pressure on a quarterback in at least a couple of seasons.

My wireless went out. So, I'll have to enjoy the second half by the tv but not by the computer.

There'll be a post-thread up after the game.

Hook 'Em.

Great 1st half

But I still thought we didn't utilize JC enough. But then again, it's not the 4th quarter yet!

Our defense has been great. It's probably more of the ASU O-line being crappy.

There pass protection sucks and we're really

stepping up.  JC was invisible in the 2nd Qt. and if we keep feeding him very good things will eventually happen.  They may get a few passes of and a couple of TDs but they don't have the horses on D to keep up with us.  Still, Mack's right, we have to keep pushing.  No margin could be big enough.

I want to see more chiles and charles.

If they man the box, Chiles can dump off to Finley for some passing yards.

Without.....

.....having to worry about receiving his Holiday Bowl carries, look for Jamaal Charles to announce his intentions to leave for the NFL.

Awesome game...

So far.  I am impressed with Texas as of now, especially the Defense.  Let's see what Dennis Erickson does for the second half... that will tell the tale as ASU is known for comebacks.  If we keep getting after Carpenter like we did in the first half though a comeback won't be happening.

I would do Holly Rowe.  Oh yes. My shame is public now.

time

to run the ball in the second half. play-action, but come out running the ball, see more series with Chiles at quarterback.

I picked ASU in this game, but I'm glad you guys are kicking their ass. They are a second half team, but they'll have to keep more guys in to protect Rudy Carpenter otherwise he won't finish the game.

One other thing - if you're ahead by 18, and your offense keeps moving the ball, a 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer doesn't hurt that much. He had tunnel vision in the first half. You need to make sure he keeps it in the second.

And Holly Rowe ain't all that bad. Wait 'til all your skinny, fake-boobed women get older. They age incredibly fast.

How stupid...

"I'm really not sure who it was..." - Mack Brown in halftime interview

Really Mack? You didn't recognize your own stepson? You don't think ESPN is capable of getting identification? Get real! Tell the truth, rather than a failed (even before you utter it) lie.

Hell of a half of football. Our defense just ripped their O-Line apart! If I had RBs with such pathetic blocking skills, I'd just float them to the flat. They sure can't stop a blitz. Might as well let Carpenter dump a few passes their way.

With 50 seconds remaining in the game, why did we have Colt in a position to give away points????? Take a knee, get in the locker room and enjoy the 21 point lead.

Good point

By his comment Mack made it look like either he doesn't know what is happening on his own side-line or else he assumes the viewers and interviewers are stupid.  The commentators characterized it as "having the kid's back," but in reality, it just made Brown look dumb and protecting himself.  He could have made a joke out of it, grinned and said "yeah it was my stepson, he may be sleeping with the dog tonight."  Why have your doofus stepson on the sidelines anyway, especially up front?  Furthermore, if Brown didn't know "who" it was, how could he then go on to say he didn't think he really touched the ball?  We can laugh about it now, but in reality it could have cost us the game.

Chiles Not A Weapon as a QB

Untill he can complete a pass.

by burntup on Dec 27, 2007 9:29 PM CST   0 recs

Hasn't had a chance

he has thrown 9 passes this season.  Not much of a chance to get any practice or demonstrate ability.

God this is a long half time break........

OK...the first 5 minutes of the second half are going to tell us how much fun or nail bitin' we are going to experience.

Lets hope we can stay fired up !

I'd rather you just say thank you and went on your way.

injuries

I just read in statesman.com that Aaron Lewis and Kindle were hurt in the first half.  Lewis is allegedly out for the game.  Any word on this?

We gave upo a 3rd and long there.

9 yards on the screen

The D needs to keep it up.  ASU is coming out throwing this half.

by UT2001 on Dec 27, 2007 9:37 PM CST   0 recs

I don't like this

they are moving the ball with ease.

by Texas Our Texas on Dec 27, 2007 9:37 PM CST   0 recs

They have more blocking, keeping people in.

Screen - they're trying to temper our D aggression.

blind blitzing

giving a decent coaching staff time to adapt to blind blitzing akina's style. 90% chance they will hit a TD pass here. the screen is being set up well too

by the chairman211 on Dec 27, 2007 9:39 PM CST   0 recs

Their best shot? Maybe.

They've got a little luck, but they're using it up. We're making them work for everything they have...except for gift 7.

by whills on Dec 27, 2007 9:41 PM CST to parent up   0 recs

Carpenter

has missed on a few passes tonight...I think he might be a little gunshy from the hits he's taken so far.

by UT2001 on Dec 27, 2007 9:41 PM CST   0 recs

yup

We need to get that 3 back.....or 7 would be nice.  At least we held them to 3, though.  Those are the plays that might make the difference since there are probably plenty of points to come.

by junglerules on Dec 27, 2007 9:41 PM CST   0 recs

Just give it to JC

Another TD should just about do it.  Carpenter just doesn't have enought tonight to comeback from that.

Fumbled snap, dump off, and a sack. Almost as bad as our first half opening drive was good.

--AW--

by awiggo on Dec 27, 2007 9:48 PM CST   0 recs

horrible play by Colt

Once the snap was botched, he had an opportunity to throw it away and instead took the sack for a loss of 5 yards.

INTERCEPTION by Griffin, helped by Foster!!!

Now don't turn the ball over.

We're cold b/c of Colt

Chiles brings energy to the field and to the crowd.
