Connor's Mom To PB/AW:
So I made the trek up to OU today with occasional BON'er longhornroadtrip and a couple other guys. The game was nice, Sooners are hicks, we got a couple memorable stories to tell about the fans, but one of the best parts of the trip is when we hung around at the end to get pictures down near the court.
We saw two ladies wearing burnt orange. After having them take pictures of us, they introduced themselves as Connor and JD's mothers.
After talking to us for a while, Connor's mom (who is very nice, by the way), asked us if we read any Longhorn blogs. Ryan heads up www.longhornroadtrip, and we talked about that, but the real kicker from the conversation was when Mrs. Atchley brought up 'that Burnt Orange Nation site.' I confirmed my love for the site, and she gave me a funny look.
So like any good mother looking to give the bully a "good talking to," she told me to tell you guys she wanted to meet you.
Anyway, just relaying the message.

Well damn
Which is so, so wrong. We only get upset with Bad Connor. Good Connor is key to our NCAA tournament hopes!
Mrs. C: I beg of you, tell your son to get that ankle healed and give us Baylor-esque perforamnces each night. Trust us - typing "Bad Connor" hurts. It hurts deep inside.
Notice PB says nothing to JD's Mom

JD will make a great assistant coach one day
And so when I call for him to stay on the bench, I'm only thinking of his future. I want him to absorb all the sideline banter of Rick Barnes and the assistants. Pre-job training, if you will.
Nice Save

Classic
Obviously, Connor's mom loves him very much and doesn't like to see her son criticized unfairly in a public manner. But as PB mentioned, we do not hate Connor and have never written anything like that. In fact, I have written on several occasions of the importance Atchley is to the team. With an extrememly thin bench and James' ability to regularly get in foul trouble, we need Connor to step up on a regular basis. And he has done so, especially in the two Baylor games.
Ms. Atchley, we need your son to play physical defense, stay on the ground against the pump fakes, and knock down the open 15-footer. If he can do even two of those three in a game, he gets more than a passing grade from this hoops fan.

That's awesome
I don't think you can back out of all the shit y'all have talked about Connor. But, as of late there has been a lot of praise towards him as well.
Because this team is so young I think our expectations are way too high as far as development goes.
I often forget that Connor is just a sophmore and he really has been improving ever since his arrival on the 40 acres. Heres to a couple more years of Good Connor.
It's not like we're singling out Connor and JD
Parents of athletes have to be used to this by the time their kids get to college. Have you ever listened to the people in the stands at a high school game recently? Fans regularly question the players' sexuality and paternity as well as their ability to play the game.

harsh but honest
They do honestly describe our opinions of the players skills and performance.
We would all love to say nice things and if every player was a Vince Young or Kevin Durant we would. But not every body is that good. In fact all of us writing are not that good.
If you don't have an honest idea of your skill level it will be reveled to you. The NBA does not take players so they don't hurt someones feelings. Your boss is going to treat you the same way if, you don't measure up you could be out of a job. If you don't have the skills to play in Division I there are lots of other places to go and enjoy playing ball. The spot light will find you in Division I ball and it will be brutally honest if you don't measure up. When the spot light does finds you, you have to be prepared to accept the good with the bad because it can rain down rose petals of it can rain down shit (sometimes you cant tell which is which).
