McCoy on CNNSI

There is a nice story about Colt and the boys on cnnsi.com.  When is the spring game again?  Too man days away...

Here is the link:

GD's quote about the a&m game:
"In hindsight, he shouldn't have played," said Davis. "He was cleared to play, he wanted to play, we wanted him to play, but in hindsight, he wasn't himself."

I don't blame them for playing him, considering how the rest of the team played after McCoy went out in the K-state game.  But it's good to see they've recognized the mistake and are trying to get a #2 QB more playing time early in the season in case Colt goes down again, so they won't feel the need to bring him back before he's ready.

also, they should fire dr. brad mccoy.

The strange thing to me
is that in the past, Mack is almost always reluctant to play guys with an injury of that kind. They didn't let Cedric or BJ play with stingers. (realizing it is on an individual basis)
Why would you let the QB play with an injury to his throwing arm?

I guess they can excuse playing him if he reassured his health, but allowing him to continue playing through four quarters deserves criticism. We could all see he was off on his first few throws.
Of course, without the BS push off call on Limas or twinkle toes Melton this would be a moot discusion. Horns would probably win a close one.

injuries
Mack Brown is not a doctor... ultimately he has to depend on the medical staff for those decisions, whom I assume to be competent.  Maybe they should have pulled him earlier in the A&M game, but I can't blame him for starting McCoy based on the information he had at the time.

Put it all on Melton
If he had done what he was supposed to do, Texas goes up 7-0 on its first possession and goes on to the expected blowout win. But that doesn't make this a moot point.  Even with that score, it was clear on the 2nd possession that Colt wasn't right, and he should have been out of the game in the 1st quarter. This won't be an issue next year, because both Harris and Chiles will be capable of coming in for Colt if he gets injured again. Let's just hope GD and Mack have learned their lesson and are more prepared to pull the trigger if this situation comes up again.

No doubt.
Once again, Speedy Greg is on the case finally figuring out in 4 mos what the entire state of Texas knew in about 4 min....that Colt shouldn't have played.

I completely understand starting him, but by the time the 1st quarter was over, he should have been in the locker room.

And yes, it was THAT obvious and there WERE people saying it on the game day thread.  This isn't just revisionist history.

huh?
I'm sorry, I didn't realize that these decisions stopped with Greg Davis.

Mack makes the ultimate call
but Greg Davis should be suggesting it first. And if he sees Colt is struggling, he should be suggesting changes.
So take that.

and
if it was so obvious to the collection of scholars on the gameday thread, should it not have also been obvious to mack - the one with the ultimate decision.

It simply comes down to the fact that their best chance to win was with an 80% (debatable percentage, I know) Colt, rather than with Jevan.  He was cleared to play and they went with him.

Of course you can say he probably shouldn't have been in there.  Would you rather GD had said that, in light of what happened, he would put him out there again come hell or high water?

Sometimes you can't win for losing around here.

I hope that by saying
"... I even feel like I've gotten a bit faster," Colt means he'll be able to evade rushers in the pocket better and not foreshadowing more involvement in the running game.
