Countdown To Football: 135 Days

Starting today, and updating every single day until the party finally freaking starts again... we're gonna do a countdown of days left until kickoff. And since we're starting in mid-April, that's gonna mean 135 reasons to love Longhorn football.

Starting with Colt McCoy. We may have a long way to go until football starts up again, but our quarterback gives one hell of a great reason to be excited about the 2007 season.

Check out Colt's numbers from 2006:

The 29 touchdowns was a single season record, and at his current pace he'll set the Texas career touchdown mark by the time the 2007 season is complete.

So while we've got a long, long way to go until football actually is back in Austin, just try to think about how good McCoy might be during his sophomore encore.

TD:INT ratio.  I'd be interested to see where that is on the list of best QB seasons (freshmen or otherwise).

Don't forget

Three of those were against A&M, when McCoy was playing badly hurt.

running game

Looking forward to an improved running game so Colt doesn't have to carry the load again.

My roommate is in the Naval ROTC

and they have physical training certain weekday mornings at 6:00 a.m. This morning, instead of their regular drill instructor, they had Mad Dog as their instructor.

Anyways, Mad Dog brought along a few football players, including...Colt McCoy.  My roommate said he definitely looks more imposing in person.

Good to see that Colt's keeping in shape during the off-season. I expect big things as well.

Lots to be excited about

Colt, by all accounts, should be better than ever.  And the receiving group is rock solid.  I expect Jermichael to do great things, in the way that David Thomas was so valuable.

I'm a little worried about the whole "getting Colt more involved in the running game" idea... as much as I would love to see him play like Vince, that's not realistic and the last thing we need is for him to get injured again.  If he can do just enough to make the zone read work again, that should be OK.

Good idea, PB

Mad I didn't think of it first...

So....

I'm a little bit of a Colt McCoy fan.  Just a smidgen.
