Press Release Edit: ESPN's NFL Draft Coverage

I don't think it is as excruciating as PB, but some of these personalities are put up there simply to give the others something to talk about. They have no insight on reality whatsoever.

Mel Kiper is fucking worthless. A friend just wrote me... "Instead of employing Mel Kiper from January-April, I think ESPN would be better off renting a chicken and having it shit on a bingo style card. In the columns will be the teams, and in the rows will be the eligible players."

First Round
Correct Picks (Team and Number) - 4 (D'Brick, Hawk, Davis, Mercedes Lewis)
Of the 32 picks, Kiper correctly identified 26 of them (missed Carpenter, Hali, Joseph, Mangold, Addai and Kiwi) as being first round picks

Second Round
Correct Picks (Team and Number) - 0
Correct Team, but wrong Pick number - 2 (McIntosh, Justice)
Of the 32 picks, Kiper correctly identified 15 of them as being 2nd round picks

Third Round
Correct Picks (Team and Number) - 0
Correct Team, but wrong Pick number - 3 (Winston, Youboty, Pope)
Of the 33 picks, Kiper correctly identified 12 of them as being 3rd round picks

Summary
In the ENTIRE first 3 rounds, Kiper only identified FOUR correct picks (Team and Number).
In the ENTIRE first 3 rounds, Kiper only correctly identified 9 of 97 picks to the correct team.
Of the 97 players taken in the first 3 rounds, only 76 of them were in his 3 round mock draft.

So then you would admit that ESPN & others have "Draft Experts" like Kiper just to add to the charade and hype? Point being...he may offer valuable insight, but don't call him something he is not. My grandmother is as much of a draft expert (in that respect of course) as Mel Kiper. He's just a good sports analyst, right?

I found myself watching bits of Kentucky/South Carolina being replayed on ESPNU.  I'll take anything at this point.

I agree with Peter that most of these guys are jackasses, I just like the drama and the "putting the puzzle together" aspect of draftday.  Once you realize that EVERY team takes the full 15 minutes, you just leave the volume down and come back to the the tv every 14 minutes or so.  

Other [more interesting] activities and alcohol enhance this ritual.

Now there's a dandy insult. I happen to be fat and one of the reasons I come to BON is for a respite from the pervasive prejudice against overweight people I have to live with every day. If you think fat people are overweight because they are lazy, greedy, or lack self control, you need to put down the sports section and see what medical science has to say about the causes of obesity.

Daily RDA of Trojan homerism: unless someone spikes Keyshawn's drink with Irvin's "Pre-broadcast pep pills," he cannot possibly be as bad as Irvin. But that only makes Keyshawn one on a long list... e.g., my daughters, who at 4 and 2 cannot actually follow a football game could do a better job than Irvin. They both speak in complete sentences for a start.

says that the instant he knew that he was going to marry his wife was on day 1 of draft day a few years ago when they had other plans, which got canceled for whatever reason.  she then said, "well, why don't you just watch the draft and i'll make you some chili.  you need me to go to the store for some beer?"

so far all the inanity of the draft, at least it brings people together, PB.  people who like beer and chili.
