Morning Coffee
Let's start with former UT standout TJ Ford, who was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night following a scary injury during the Raptors' 98-96 win. As it turns out, the hospital visit was precautionary, a reaction to Ford's significant injury history. He's cleared all tests and, according to sources in Toronto, will start game six. Best of luck to TJ and the Raptors tonight.
While we're on the subject of injuries to former 'Horns, a while ago someone had queried me about Taylor Teagarden's rehab from Tommy John surgery. Taylor was actually doing quite well in his comeback, but his season is now on hold after he experienced elbow soreness last week. He was placed on the disabled list, though there's no update yet on whether he's suffering a long-term setback. We'll provide updates as they become available.
This was mentioned elsewhere, but Selvin Young has signed with the Denver Broncos. Given Young's skills as a special teams contributor, as well as Denver's proven ability to develop productive tailbacks out of just about anybody, there's some chance he sticks.
Speaking of the NFL Draft, Tim Griffin notes that Texas has had eight first round NFL Draft selections since 2004, while the rest of the Big 12 combined has eight during that same time period. Again, something to note as recruiting battles for the best prospects left on the board heat up.
I've now received four emails from fellow Longhorn fans with links to the same picture of pole vault athlete Allison Stokke. So, for the rest of you: here it is. The 18 year old (hear that, emailers?) athlete from Newport Beach, California (where my brother went to high school) has committed to compete at Cal this fall.
Last, allow me to apologize for the scant posting of late. Book deadlines are thumping me from every direction, which makes time for digging for offseason news all the harder. As always, keep things lively in the diaries as stories break. Or, even, just to dive into off topic questions that merit discussion.

18?!?!
i'm only 25 and i feel old and dirty. she looks a bit like that girl from friday night lights...
and i'm trying desperately to refrain from the obvious "she sure knows how to handle that pole" joke. because, you know, that would be wrong. or something. my understanding is "that's how they do it in the O.C....bitch..."

I'm forty and I'm ok with it.
George Burns said it best (when he was 83):
I liked 18 year old girls when I was 18, my tastes haven't changed.

wow, apparently this calls for some clarification
I've got no problem looking at pictures...it's the idea that i'm old enough now that dating an 18-year old would be totally weird and skeezy. what's the rule on dating ages? half your age plus 7? let's see....that girl needs to turn 19 and a half SOON.
skeezy side story: when i was 23, a girl came up to me at a concert and started hitting on me. she said she was 21 and i was drunk enough to believe it. after the concert i found out she was 16. 16! and wouldn't you know it, i was taking criminal law at the time and we had just gone over the strict liability of statutory rape in class. so needless to say, i got the hell out of there. i think i still have her number somewhere though. she's probably 18 by now....
well, if i didn't feel dirty before, i do now after remembering that story.

to quote...
"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."

Holy geez
I'm 23, and I have no problem gawking at unbelievably smoking 18 year-olds like Stokke. Good god, what am I doing wasting my time following college football? It's all track meets for me from now on.

First of All
DAMN THAT CHICK IS HOT!
With regard to sports, which is tough to think about after seeing that picture, I think that stat about first rounders is pretty incredible.
We are in the same conference with Oklahoma and Nebraska. Along with Texas, Notre Dame, USC, Mich, tOSU, I mean that is the list right?! And 3 of them are in our conference and we have just Dominated them in top-end talent.
I would also like to finish with
DAMN THAT CHICK IS HOT!
PS - 28 yrs old, a high school teacher, and perfectly fine with the drool that picture inspired.

Thanks for nothin'
Now that I've seen those pictures, it's clear she's not nearly as hot as the original pic would suggest. Doh!

Eh
Don't get me wrong, she clearly has a body that could launch a thousand ships, but the face, seen from multiple angles, doesn't bowl me over. And at my age (and newly wedded state), a girl has to have the total package to induce any drool.
But please, do not allow my contrary opinion to dissuade you from posting further "research" opportunities such as these!

More track and field cuties than expected
I've been doing further "research" and there are a surprising number of attractive female athletes in track and field - there's something to be said for the signing pictures of Ms Stokke and immediately adjacent the young lady signing for SC...

Teagarden
His MRI was negative and there's no tear in his elbow.

Road Trip to Corpus Anyone?
At this point it would appear to be a good bet Texas and Rice will be among the eight national seeds when the NCAA baseball tournament field is announced later this month. The Longhorns put some distance in the Big 12 race with last weekend's sweep over Oklahoma State
From what I'm told, the Longhorns would host an opening-round regional at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. If they advance they would host a super-regional at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, home of the Astros' Double-A affiliate.
Really? Corpus Christi? Whataburger Field? Umm, isn't the point to have the most attendance possible? Why not do the super-regional at Dell Diamond too?

Dell Diamond not possible
The Express have home games during the super weekend, so it is booked. Same with Wolff Stadium in San Antonio. So Whataburger Field is the best choice.
