Crystle Stewart Is Crowned Miss Texas 2008
You can thank 54b for this post, by the way. I mean, really, what are the odds that we cover the Miss Texas 2008 pageant if Cory doesn't drop a pageant reference into each of his last 100+ comments.
If you haven't saluted him lately, then today's your day, 'cause without his perserverence, this news item slips right under our radar.
As it is, Miss Texas 2008 caught our attention this year. The competition, which aired Sunday night across the state between 8:00 and 10:00 PM, crowned the state's most delightful debutant, who will compete for the Miss USA title next year.
Your Texas beauty queen for 2008 is Crystle Stewart, a lovely 25 year old student at the University of Houston. Without question, this is a post that requires pictures, so, to the MS Paint board we go:

Judging from the above, it's no surprise the young lady was voted "Most Photogenic" prior to the competition. On Sunday, though, she got the Big prize - Miss Texas. Congratulations to her and may she represent us well at the national event in '08.
When she wins Miss USA, I hope she thanks 54b for his role in her rise to the top.
FYI: if Ms. Stewart should have an unfortunate fall from grace and have to give up her tiara, Texas beauty pageant fans can rest easy knowing that this year's runner up is hardly lacking in qualifications.

Brooke Daniels, Runner Up

I won't watch
My mother has been active in the Miss Texas pageant system for about 20 years and let me tell you, Miss USA is not the good program. Miss America is the good program. They aren't the same. Miss USA is owned by the donald is judged entirely on beauty, while the Miss America scholarship pageant is a combination of 40% talent, interview, etc. and not just beauty. The contestants compete for college scholorships. The Miss Texas Pageant will be held this Saturday in Ft. Worth and I will be attending for like the 20th year in a row. It's pretty much the most boring thing in the world, but I felt like enlightening ya'll about the pageant system.
Great Googily Moogily...
I think the Pageant crusade just reached its zenith...now I can just put it on cruise control and coast on into football season...I'm not sure what's worse, the fact that I'm successfully lobbying for beauty pageants to be recognized as a sport on the BON or the fact that I actually know nothing about them.
Regardless, it's an excuse to look at hot chicks, and there ain't nothin' wrong with dat.
And um, no offense to Crystle, she does her Glamour Shots proud, but is there any precedent for impeaching the reigning Miss Texas, Brooke Daniels is, how did that kid on the Tilt-A-Whirl in Joe Dirt say it, "so hot you'd shit yo-self."
She is ridiculous...excuse me, I'm going to need five minutes, and some privacy.
Miss Texas in Ft. Worth this Saturday
54b, do you have your tickets yet? Maybe you should live blog the entire event.
Why buy tickets to see Miss Texas...
BTW, that crazy astronaut chick wasn't kidding, these adult diapers really do work...
It's win-win
But for some reason, when I look deep into Ms. Stewart's eyes, I say, "now there's a woman who is probably dynamite in the sack but if provoked, is capable of burning my house down Left-Eye style.
Both are great, but the runner-up requires less insurance and a lower deductable.
Then again, I'm still holding out for Miss Brownwood, so I'll be happy to share.

I can't believe...
I am actually commenting on a post about beauty Pageants, but my girlfriend made me watch some of this and it was TERRIBLE. Granted, some of the girls were pretty damn hot, but you can easily see better products in the average issue of Maxim or on E!. And if your response is "but these are good, all American girls", than that's a load of crap. Did you see Miss Hottie Houston's question and answer session? You'd get better responses from a wall.
The best part of it was the constant hard-selling of Laredo, TX as a tourist destination and cultural epicenter. You know they're desperate when they list Red Lobster as one of the wonderful seafood experiences you can have while dining at their great restaurants. Others included Johny Carino's, Olive Garden, and some Taco Stand. Honestly, this is meant with no offense to those of you from Laredo...unless you think that Red Lobster is the highlight of your city.

My wife and daughter got
into this last night and forced me to suffer through about 45 min of this crap. The dialogue was just awful. And those girls are so uniform (and I don't mean the identical swimsuits) and stiff that they suffocate any fleeting voyeuristic thought you might conjure. The best part was learning about all that Laredo has to offer. I kind of like my standing reservation at the Austin Ramada on football weekends, but now that I've become acquainted with the Holiday Inn and Americana Motel in Laredo, I'm feeling gypped.
Watched it
For some reason the tv was on the channel before it started and I wasn't reall watching. Then the pageant came on and I couldn't turn away (like a car wreck). Coincidentally, a friend (with no cable) IMed to watch the horror a couple minutes after it began.
The whole thing was brutal. The two worst parts had to be the A&M singers and the constant pimping of Laredo, such as highlighting Johny Carino's as a culinary masterpiece of the city.
And, what was with all the overlapping regions (Austin, Travis County, State Capitol, etc)? It's like a father will create a new regional contest just so his daughter can win.
The Donald has turned this into a slut-fest
Check out the web sites for Miss USA and Miss Universe sometime. He's got these wholesome lasses all tarted up like a College Station piglet on a Saturday night. If that's your thing, so be it, but I'll stick with Miss America, too. Kudos to Ms. Stewart, though, and may I take the opportunity again to mention how we need more diversity in the ranks of UT Cheerleading?!
