St. Mary's at Texas Open Thread

At least from TV, the drum looks packed.

1. We're allowing a ridiculous number of WIDE open threes.

2. Rebounding, and their size will get them easy baskets.

DJ makes a sick step back shot.

Looks like either Barnes is sending a message about giving players time that play hard, or Mooney is actually in the playing rotation.

He's making his shots. That's always a good thing. His midrange game is elite. That's where the Nash comparisons are legit.

We just don't feel like guarding the three point line. At all. Horrible job of perimeter defense and rotations. We're just going to let them drain threes. Our only hope is if they go cold.

That's exactly what we want. Offensive rebound and put back. 24-21 St. Mary's.

18 of St. Mary's 27 points are off of threes. This is becoming ridiculous.

Either they make their threes, or if they miss them, they get the offensive rebound.

This is one of his best games in like 2/3 weeks.

We're starting to see that we have a lot of options to go to when everyone's having a good shooting game. Abrams isn't though.

They just want it more. At the same time, it's leading to them getting fouls.

Maybe we do have some frontcourt depth behind Connor and Johnson. Dexy, Mooney, and Wingman have all played consistently. Add them with Mason, and that's a 9-deep rotation.

Not even a FT rebound. Un-freaking-believable.

We're shooting 56%, while they're shooting 34%.

We're only up by 4 though because we've given them a bunch of second chances.

James basically missed 4 FTs (1 was front end of one and one)

1. 3pt defense. 2/3 of their scoring are from threes. I'd be OK with that if we had a hand in their face, but they are getting WIDE OPEN looks.

2. Rebounding. We are being outrebounded 24-9 overall and 12-2 offensive boards.

is the only player that's going to get offensive rebound. Our rebounding is just so atrocious right now.

Barnes must've emphasized rebounding, and we're gradually making up the deficit.

St. Mary's is killing themselves by shooting so many threes. There's a clear matchup advantage inside and they're not exposing it enough.

And we're rebounding!

That was a great play.

When DJ and AJ are both shooting the ball well, how do you stop this team? You have 2 inside beasts in Johnson and James, and you have another guy in Connor who can score very efficiently inside and outside.

I've been all over the team's bad rebounding and 3pt defense in the first half, but this may end up being our best performance since the Tennessee game.

I thought any offense from him is a bonus. Well, we hit the jackpot. Already 15 pts and 5 boards.

You can't stop this.

St. Mary's is playing like they give up. Defensive intensity is much lower. We wore them out.

Nice to see 4 guys in double figures, and this time it's Augustin that's approaching 30 pts.

Connor has only attempted 1 shot. I don't like seeing an efficient shooter like him disappearing. Mason has only attempted 1 shot. Now that's a good thing. With Johnson as an added scorer and James sudden ability to shoot outside, Mason doesn't have to shoot that much anymore.

Even though DJ is our leader and soul, it's starting to look like we can have a different hero each night.

FINAL! 81-62 victory. This ended up being a great win. Who thought we were capable of getting a team fatigued? You'd think it would be the other way around.
