Daniel Gibson on Center Stage
For those of you who have been following the NBA playoffs, you're probably aware that Ex-Longhorn Guard Daniel Gibson has emerged in the Eastern Conference Finals as a critical component to the Cleveland Cavaliers' success. With Eric Snow in the game, the Cavs have no chance. It's as simple as that. He can't hit a 10 footer even if he's the only person in the gym. With Gibson alongside James in the backcourt, the Cavaliers are able to stretch the defense much more effectively, giving LeBron more operating room in the paint to either finish at the rim or dish to open shooters. Gibson played significant minutes in Game 3 against Detroit when starter Larry Hughes went to the bench with an injury. Gibson hit some crucial open shots, played tenacious defense, and looked poised out there in a pressure-packed situation (think the opposite of Chris Mihm).
I'ts not just his long-range ability that is being noticed though. Gibson's quick hands and feet have also stood out. Despite being only 6'2" (and that's probably generous), Gibson has held is own against the much taller, thicker, and experienced guards from Detroit. His coach certainly noticed:
I doubt Gibson will ever be a superstar in a league as talented as the NBA, but tonight is his chance to really emerge and establish himself as a legitimate player in the league. Cleveland's starting SG Larry Hughes has declared himself doubtful for tonight's game, meaning Gibson will probably get the nod to start. It's also basically a must-win game for Cleveland--they go down 3-1 to a team as experienced as Detroit, it's over.
So, the stage is set for Gibson to make a name for himself, while trying to help help his team even the series at 2 games a piece.

If you listen to Lebron...
...Gibson is key to their win. After being asked about Gibson's performance in game 3, Lebron said that he pulled Daniel aside and told him that the Cavs needed him on the floor.
Honestly, when I found out that Gibson was going to the Cavs, I couldn't have been happier for him. He is a perfect fit. He is a shooting/point hybrid that plays oppurtunistic D, meshing nicely with the point forward formula.
You also have to love how Lebron is grabbing that team by the collar. Shades of Vince. (Homer comment.)
Good luck tonight, Daniel. Go Cavs.

Perfect fit
As I've said before, Gibson is a perfect fit for James. Since Cleveland runs the offense through James, DG does not have to distribute the ball -- his main weakness. He just needs to bring it up court and get it to James, and then be ready to shoot the jumper.

Daniel Gibson WILL be a super star
WOW! He was the second best player on the field IMO. He played his best basketball yet. 21 points in 23 minutes and great decision making.
I never imagined that he'd be playing in this level in the nba.

The Daniel Gibson Show
Everyone couldn't get enough of him, for an hour there it was the Daniel Gibson Show on TNT.
While LeBron was out late in the 2nd quarter, Gibson was leading the Cavaliers on something like a 10-3 run to end the half.

Houston passes on another home-town native
Sigh... to think the Rockets drafted Steve Novak over Gibson, allowing the Cavs to draft him.
It was understandable at the time, since we had already acquired a bunch of guards like Kirk Snyder, John Lucas III, and Vassilis Spanoulis... but NONE of them got into Jeff Van Gundy's rotation. Neither did Novak. Either they were just bad players or didn't fit into JVG's system.
Gibson would've been perfect to back up Rafer Alston, who was forced to play 40+ minutes because we had no back up point. He doesn't really have to play PG though, since T-Mac is the main distributor and play-maker. He is Houston's version of LBJ.

Didn't work out for Houston
DGib didn't work out for Houston. He got called by them but worked out EXCLUSIVELY with the Cavs. Pretty gutsy.
Crap, I can't find the link. I vaguely remember seeing it on Deadspin or The Big Lead but now I can't locate it. Anybody else see it?

Not for the Rockets
I'm pretty sure Gibson did work out in the city of Houston under John Lucas II. A lot of players in the draft do this. Current players also work out with Lucas.
