Depth Chart Projection: Defense & Special Teams, June
Like with the offensive depth chart, we'll take a stab at it now, once more in July, and several times throughout August as practices resume.
My best guess:

Discuss.

Fozz
It would be nice for Fozzy to get some play time as a kickoff returner.

Instead of redshirt?
Hard to see...
I don't blame you, though, being from Pearland and all.
Whit will get his chance. I dunno about right away, though.
redshirt
Fozzy told me personally he was going to redshirt. He was at the MIS Business Fair last month wearing a nametag for his group that read "Fozzy," which is how I knew it was him. Other than that, I would have had no idea. He's just a pretty average looking dude right now. Anyway, I asked him how spring practices were going and if he thinks he'd get any PT next season, at which time he said he was redshirting.
I feel big things for him in 2-3 years, though. He was amazing in high school.
He needs to redshirt
Coming off of that injury is no easy task. Add to that he's starting a career in a major D1 school with lots of attention, and he doesn't need to risk being anything less than 100%.
Fozzy is good and I just can't wait to see him on the field. I think he's going to be an excellent back for Texas. But I don't think you risk hurting him. We have plenty of RB's this year and plenty of ST players that we don't need to jeopardize his career.
Killabrew...
He had such a great freshman year, but now he is back up. Muckelroy is coming back from injurie but a couple years ago i thought killebrew could be the next good linebacker at texas but i guess i was wrong
undisciplined play is why he is a back-up
he doesn't follow his keys, and he makes too many personal fouls
I think Curtis Brown or Chykie
are more likely as back-up return guys. Mack likes DB's to return, in case it's a fake.
When does Christian Scott hit campus? It seems like he could be in the mix at safety.
Which LB loses starting job?
I loved Bobino and Derry's reliability, but I think Norton and Kindle are rising quickly. Which of these young stars will supplant the a starter by season's end? Also, regarding Kindle, do we know yet whether he is exclusively on defense or will he get some short yardage looks at tailback?
LBs
Bobino's gonna start, I'm sure, though the dude needs to learn how to shed a freaking block. My guess is that coaches won't be able to keep Muckelroy on the sidelines. Kindle could supplant Derry, but he's probably got to show way more consistency before that happens.
I'd love to see
Curtis Brown get in on the return game. Possibly give him some PT during the season opener against Ark State?
I agree that killebrew makes way too many fouls, muckelroy showed alot during the first half of last season and should be a great LB.
I also hope Vondrell McGee turns out to be a solid backup for JCharles.
Out of curiosity
where WOULD Robert Joseph have been on this depth chart?
by joey @ Burnt Orange Nation on Jun 12, 2007 2:12 PM CDT reply actions
that's correct
joseph would ahve been kelson's primary backup and a speical teams starter. Now because of his transfer, do you guys see Erick JAckson or Christian Scott getting some more playing time?
Jackson
Scott's got a chance to earn some playing time, but Jackson's a fifth year senior. Hard to imagine he won't be getting the major PT to start the season.
What about the security gaurd
at the Omni who chased down Joseph from behind?
Are they a student? What are they running, a sub 4.3 forty?
Joseph was sitting in the car
Not running when they "caught" him. So, I'm betting a sub 6.3 maybe.
Chykie Brown
I think he has the chance ot win a starting spot if he really shows up well during fall practices.
