#7 Volleyball at #1 Nebraska
Promoted from the diaries. --PB--
Michelle Moriarty and the Texas volleyball team travel to Lincoln to take on the top ranked, and defending national champion, Cornhuskers on Wednesday night at 7:00pm. The match will be televised on CSTV.
After dropping the season's first two matches to a very talented Penn State team (currently 6-1, with the lone loss coming in Lincoln), the Lady 'Horns rebounded with four convincing wins, including a 3-1 victory over Pepperdine. Texas looks to ride the momentum it has created over the past four matches in to Lincoln against the #1 Cornhuskers, who sit at 7-0.
My personal key to the match: passing. Nebraska has an extremely talented team all the way around. They will put some balls away. The thing that Texas must remember, though, is that they can hit with the best of them, too... if they can pass. Faucette and Hooker can't ever get going if Moriarty can't get them the ball. Moriarty can't get them the ball if the serve receive passing continues to be as inconsistent as it has been.
If Texas can be next to flawless in serve-receive, look for them to hang around with the talented Cornhuskers. I don't think it will be enough, though. I don't think this Texas team has quite found their identity. As the season progresses, the freshman will start to find their roles on the team much better, and the entire unit will come together. The rematch in Gregory should provide a much better opportunity for Texas to knock of the 'Huskers.
My prediction:
Game 1 30-25 Nebraska
Game 2 31-29 Texas
Game 3 30-28 Nebraska
Game 4 30-24 Nebraska

Good test for the team
It should be a good measuring stick for where this team is. Bdub you need to give Nebraska 15 more points in Game 4 if you are predicting a 3-1 match. :-) I'm not as optimistic as you, I think the Huskers sweep in Lincoln. Our serve/receive was too spotty last weekend. But I predict we win the rubber match in Austin. This team will start peaking at the end of the season.

wow
I'm a dumbass. I originally had a 3-2 pick but quickly realized I was being extremely generous and changed it, but apparently forgot to change my Game 4 score.

Game 1 goes to Nebraska
Destinee suspended one game for violating team rules related to academics. DAMN!
We lose 30-24. A good showing without our superstar. And yes Juliann is hammering the ball on Houghtelling and I'm loving it!!!!!!!!

God Nebraska is gooood
They have touch, power, great teamwork. Impressive.
I'm no expert, but Texas looks a little bit young and overmatched right now.
Also: Michelle Moriarty is the Future Mrs. BON.

Nebraska
has two AVCA National players of the year with Sarah Pavan and Christina Houghtelling. Jordan Larson and Tracy Stalls would be superstars on any other team.
We're pretty loaded this year.
Texas had a #1 ranked recruiting class last year and it looks like they're playing a lot of youth. I was looking forward to seeing Hooker play.
Huskers ranked #1 the last 80 matches they've played, pretty impressive.
Corn Nation - Graduating more of our players than you are!

I hate being right..
Well it was a sweep. No reason to hang our head, we played with only half our All-Americans whereas Nebraska had five.
Juliann is going to be a force. Pao continues to impress. Kiley did a great job of coming in and getting some kills in Game 3 in the OH position.
This will be a different match in Austin.

:/
Well I wasn't expecting a Hooker-less match when I posted my predictions. While I wasn't able to watch the match, reading the box score and game notes tells me that Texas got absolutely hammered.
Hopefully this match will help them find their identity and be prepared for the rematch in Austin.
As for Faucette, the girl is freaking amazing. Pao continued to improve as previously mentioned, and I'm definitely excited for the rest of conference play.
As for Moriarty, I've been in love with her since the first time I saw her. I fully support her winning Mrs. BON, and I am also pulling for her to win the Heisman.
