Ricky Seals-Jones injured, carted off field

The rash of injures continued Thursay for current and former Texas commits, this time Sealy's Ricky Seals-Jones who tweaked his left knee on a tackle late in the third quarter in a nationally televised game against Houston St. Pius X on ESPNU. He was carted off the field and had an air cast on his leg, in obvious pain, though he tried to encourage his teammate upon his departure. Based on the way it torqued, it looks like a possible ACL injury, though the extent is not known at this time. Best wishes to RSJ and his family. Just devastating.

Scipio's Thoughts On The Texas Commits At The Opening

I spent most of yesterday working on SBNation stuff, so I haven't had a chance to share my thoughts on the Texas players in attendance. Fortunately, Scipio Tex did have the opportunity and they are worth reading.

A'Shawn Robinson A Top Performer In OL/DL Drills At The Opening

Even though Texas commit A'Shawn Robinson doesn't have much other than a bull rush, he was one of the top performers in the drills for the linemen this morning.

More on Dajaun Drennon

Hate to beat this to death today, but that's a link to my post on the mothership, in which Drennon talks about his current top five and visit plans. I also caught up with his head coach this evening to talk about Dajaun and what I found was interesting, to say the least. Read it to find out what coach Hinson said. The conversation also increased my conviction that Drennon would be an excellent fit at Texas. And, in case you missed it earlier, I am hearing that the 'Horns have interest in the athletic defensive end.

Durham Smythe, Team USA Open World Championship

The Texas pledge and his teammates from around the country will kick off their gold medal defense Saturday at 8 pm CST at Burger Stadium in Austin. Those unfortunate enough not to reside in the capital city can watch live on YouTube. For more on Smythe, check out the interview I did with him last week and a feature from the Statesman.

Daeshon Hall commits to Washington

So much for considering Texas. Oh yeah, and so much for being an Aggie lean. Time for the coaching staff to actually develop a coherent plan at defensive end.

Erik Huhn scouting report from BC

Since I'm busy working on my content from the Colleyville Heritage SQT over the weekend (as well as other work responsibilities), I still haven't had a chance to put together any thoughts on newest 'Horn Erik Huhn. Fortunately for y'all, Scipio Tex did have the opportunity to watch the film and wants the consternation about Huhn's offer (and, relatedly, his skin color) to abate. Or at least pause to view the film before passing judgement.

Ra'Shaad Samples names top six, 'Horns make cut

Thursday was a big day on Twitter for Samples, as he set his announcement top and named his top six. Which teams other than the 'Horns made the list? Does Samples even have a committable offer? You'll have to read to find out.

More concerns about Daeshon Hall

So, the trips to Baylor and Texas A&M were major red flags for Lancaster defensive end commit Daeshon Hall, who is certainly best categorized as a soft pledge at this point, but there may be more. Scipio Tex was tipped off about some rumblings around the Pacific Northwest that the Hall family could be headed back in that direction, which could seriously open up his recruitment. Not time to panic, but time for continued serious concern, as defensive end recruiting in this class could quickly become a major issue.

Two Longhorn commits make 2013 recruiting "Freaks" list

Every year, Bruce Feldman does a piece about the "freaks" in college football. This year Bryan Fischer did a similar list for the 2013 recruiting class. On the list were two Longhorn commits -- Whiteright quarterback Tyrone Swoopes and Celina lineman Jake Raulerson. Another Texan also made the list in the freakishly explosive Laquvionte Gonzalez, the Texas A&M commit from Cedar Hill.
