Back in June, now-former 2010 basketball commit Daniel Bejarano had to deal with the tragic death of his father, shot during a robbery at his apartment, a man Bejarano was just growing to know as a person and as a father. As a result, Bejarano re-opened his recruitment today, saying that he feels the need to stay closer to home and indicating he wants to make the decision within weeks and still sign in November. Given that his desire is to stay closer to home, it's safe to say that Bejarano will not give the Longhorns a second shot and that is perfectly understandable. As a Texas fan, I will mourn for the fact that he won't end up wearing burnt orange because of his immense talent, but that clearly pales in comparison to the actual mourning that the young man is going through, a pain I understand after losing my own father at a similar age. Best of luck to Daniel and his family as they try to piece together their lives after such a terrible tragedy.

ESPN/Scouts Inc. reports: The Southern California Hoop Review, directed by West Coast scout Gerry Freitas, wasn't chock full of major league talent. But there was a bevy of prospects that should find their way onto a Division 1 roster in the years ahead. The two most dominating prospects of the event were 6-4 junior Daniel Bejarano (Phoenix, Ariz./ North) who has committed to Texas, and 6-4 junior Keala King (Compton, Calif./ Dominguez). Bejarano, a member of the ESPNU Super 60, displayed why he is considered one of the elite prospects in the country: his shooting prowess. [...] Bejarano is one of the top wing prospects in the country. After his performance at this event, there is no reason to believe that is going to change. He is the most prolific jump shooter I've seen this season. He gets tremendous lift on his shot and his release is quick. He is best in a catch and shoot situation, but his midrange pull-up in traffic is deadly as well. He is a very shrewd passer and generally makes good decisions, but he does leave his feet far too often while delivering the assist. His basketball IQ is high and he moves well without the ball, as well. If there is an area that he needs to address it would be his handle -- there were times when he had trouble separating from defenders off the bounce. In addition, he doesn't have great quickness and he is a two-footed jumper as well that caused him to struggle going off of one foot to finish. On the other hand, he slides his feet very well on the defensive end and he plays with great energy at all times.
