"Fans that have been pining for the Seattle Sounders to make a big move this offseason got their wish on Friday as the team traded Lamar Neagle and Mike Fucito to the Montreal Impact in exchange for former United States international Eddie Johnson. The move comes as a rather massive shock as both Fucito and Neagle were thought to be in the team's longterm plans. Fucito even seemed to have the inside track on the starting forward job alongside Fredy Montero. "Eddie is a high quality striker who is a very good finisher," said Sounders technical director Chris Henderson, who coached Johnson at Kansas City. This is in regards to the American and former Fulham player Eddie Johnson, not our own English Eddie Johnson. Sorry for the confusion! Apparently the signing of Eddie Johnson to the league and one of the MLS teams higher up on the allocation order has fallen through. According to other reports, Eddie Johnson decided that the amount offered to him originally was not sufficient enough and that he wanted more money, somewhere around the likes of $175,000 for the first year increasing to $275,000 for his final third year. All I can say is "meh." He was never a truly outstanding MLS player in my opinion. In his final year he scored 14 goals which is respectable but as he's getting older there's really not a lot of improved development. Not terribly sorry to see him go back to Europe.
