The consensus second-ranked cornerback in the 2011 class opted to become a TCU Horned Frog without visiting Austin for the second Junior Day at the end of February. A lifelong Texas fan, Griffin decided instead to accept a scholarship offer from coach Gary Patterson in a major recruiting coup for the rising Mountain West program.
Throughout most of the process, it looked like Griffin was a lock to receive a Texas offer and commit on the spot. Considering his strong affection for Texas, his commitment to TCU before even attending the second Junior Day may be an indication that the Longhorn coaching staff had fallen out of contact with the talented cornerback or given him some warning that he was not going to receive an offer. Midlothian cornerback Eric Agbaroji may be the top cornerback on the board, depending on where Texas coaches feel Angleton athlete Quandre Diggs would potentially fit.
