For those following recruiting, I think we're counting this as bad news in the Darius White sweepstakes.
So says Sooner Scoop's Josh McCuistion: the Marshall linebacker will head to OU, "spurning" Texas. More bad recruiting news, so what else is new? Franklin will no doubt enjoy getting run all over the field by Darius Terrell from the flex tight end position. You're getting no help from your coach, buddy. Have fun. Breaking down to the pure choice between Venables, Chizik-like in his inability to adjust or Coach Boom, why not Muschamp? Yes, I'm a little bitter. More on this later in the weekend and best of luck to Franklin at OU -- he handled the process with maturity, but it can't feel anything but a little bit traitorous when a Texas kid heads north of the Red River when he could have been a Longhorn.
So much for OU starters Andrew Doyle and Stephen Porlier being the best #1/#2 starters in the conference. After Doyle took the loss in the first game, Stephen Porlier lasted only two innings in his second start since 2007. A Cameron Rupp home run would further stretch the lead and Austin Wood worked two innings to close the game after working out of a major jam in the seventh during the first game and finishing that one as well. Impressive day of work for Wood, who will surely not be available as Texas tries to sweep the former first-place Sooners at 1 pm Sunday.
Rick Barnes perhaps ended the speculation surrounding Concussion-Gate by revealing that Dogus Balbay accidentally hit Griffin in the ear when defending a screen set by Balbay's man. Guess Griffin didn't get drugged by Dexter Pittman's wrist band after all. Additionally, Gary Johnson is questionable for the Wednesday game against Texas Tech.
Concussion-Gate lives. The crying continues.
No confirmation yet from Wood, but Orangebloods is now reporting Connor Wood as committed to the Longhorns, a move he apparently made yesterday evening (Inside Texas reports the same ($)). If true, recruiting is now done at the quarterback position, with Texas securing commitments from the only two they pursued. Wood fits perfectly into the Longhorn offense, but will have long wait ahead of him until Garret Gilbert leaves campus and allows him a chance to start. Great news for the Longhorns, though. Update: Now confirmed ($) by BOB, which spoke to Wood this evening.
No real surprise there, as OU has been in the mix for Wood, who attended their Junior Day recently. A little bit of a surprise, though, is the revelation that Wood wants to major in petroleum engineering and likes the Mewbourne School at OU. Also interesting to note is that Wood wants to make a decision in the next two weeks and is being recruited by Josh Heupel and Major Applewhite.
I'm sorry to post this nonsense, but we need to spread awareness of the idiocy that is Sooner Nation. Note the lack of ability to reference the UT-OU score because it is a losing proposition for these fans. Also note the often used and trite "MB's a crybaby" theme even though in reality historical footage shows Bob Stoops to be the coach on the verge of tears come January every year.
Fox is about to announce the official results but Scout.com has Florida and Oklahoma headed to Miami. (Scout had it right the last couple of weeks and is owned by Fox.) If this is right, Texas ended up with a .05 computer advantage (.94 to .89) but was a distant third in both the USA Today and Harris polls. Glendale here we come. Rubber match with the Buckeyes. No surprises: National Championship: Oklahoma vs. Florida Jan. 8 Fiesta: Texas vs. Ohio State Jan. 5 Sugar: Alabama vs. Utah Jan. 2 Orange: Cincinnati vs. Virginia Tech Jan. 1 Rose: Penn State vs. USC Jan. 1
Yet another fine and upstanding athlete from Mobilehoma is arrested for theft. I for one am SHOCKED.
