Quincy Russell Fails to Qualify-Looks to JUCO ($)

Per Jeff Howe, Quincy failed to achieve the ACT/SAT score he needed to qualify at Texas. This really hurts DT depth and is a shame for the kid. Good luck Quincy.

Quincy Russell Makes 22 ($)

Quincy Russell and Christian Westerman made for one of the wildest days in recruiting back in April when Russell committed one evening, then de-committed the next, just as the talented offensive lineman decided to end his recruitment earlier than expected. As for Russell, he had decided several months ago that he wanted more time to take visits and make sure of his decision. On Sunday evening, Russell ended his recruitment by choosing the Longhorns, once again. Russell is the 22nd commitment in the class, leaving Malcolm Brown, Aaron Green, Jermauria Rasco, Anthony Wallace, and possibly David Jenkins as the outstanding offers. Austin Seferian-Jenkins is the only other player on the radar likely to receive an offer in 2011.

Russell Has a Change of Heart, De-Commits

San Antonio Sam Houston defensive tackle Quincy Russell decided that he wants to take more visits less than 24 hours after giving his verbal commitment to the Longhorns. Saying that he wants to take more visits, Russell indicated that he is not ruling out re-committing to Texas, but said that the Longhorns have only three scholarships remaining -- running back, defensive tackle, and defensive end. Russell reports 17 scholarships offers and may visit Nebraska in the near future.

DT Quincy Russell Visited, Received Offer ($)

The latest-breaking news of a visitor from the first Texas Junior Day last weekend was that of San Antonio Sam Houston's Quincy Russell, one of three defensive tackles who visited campus. Like Desmond Jackson and Marquis Anderson, Russell also received a Texas offer, but obviously did not commit while on campus. With offers from Nebraska and Oklahoma, among several others, Russell plans on taking other visits and doesn't plan on making a decision in the immediate future. One of the visits, though his coach didn't mention it in the article, could be to Oklahoma this weekend for the Sooner Junior Day. However, a major factor could be that the Longhorns likely have only one spot available in the class -- there's some pressure on Russell or Anderson to jump on it if they want to become a Longhorn.
