Roy Dresses as Tatum Bell for Halloween

Roy being Roy: he dressed as former Lion/bagage thief Tatum Bell at a Halloween party hosted by former teammate Mike Furrey for charity.

Yet another reason why he one of the greatest Longhorns ever: off-field personality.

Vikes' DTs Pat & Kevin Williams Expected to Play.

With all the discussion regarding the diuretics a few guys have tested positive for, my hope that the Vikings two monster defensive tackles would be suspended in time for our game with them this Sunday is now crushed.  Pro Bowlers Pat and Kevin Williams are expected to play, so I will not be trading for Slaton in my FFL anymore.

UT-UNC Basketball Series in the Works

Bumped from the Fan Posts.

Per the Statesman, UT and UNC are trying to schedule a 4-game basketball series beginning next year (Dec 19, to be specific).  That game will (they hope) be played in Dallas at Jerryworld, followed by a 2010 date in Greensboro, NC, and then a game at each school's campus.

In related news, my man-crush on Rick Barnes continues to grow.

This is also a good time to note single-game tickets for Texas basketball games for 2008-09 are now on sale through the Texas Box Office.

Emory Blake tears up Akins High

If I remember correctly, Mack kind didn't give him much consideration last year because of injuries. Now, I hope MB is still keeping an eye on him after he destroyed Akins High last night. Check out the linked box score, which I will sum up here:

90-yard KO return TD
2 carries, 128 yards, 1 TD (which went for 93 yds)
2 receptions, 53 yards, 1 TD (44 yds)

After looking at his rivals page, the 4* WR no longer has Texas on his mind. He is considering BC, Florida, Oregon, and Big 12 schools CU, KU, Mizzou, Nebraska, Tech.

To reiterate: he is from Austin High (yes, in Austin), he's a big-time playmaker, #20 on the Texas Top 100, and he's healthy. But a year ago he was injured, so Mack lost interest. Did I miss anything?

HOU/TEN Scouting Report from former GM

Pro Football Talk has a scouting report for our game written by former Broncos GM Ted Sundquist.  In a nutshell, his keys are:

1) Texans must establish confidence in their offense

2) DeMeco is most important in stopping Titans' running game

3) Titans must open up passing game (downfield) with pocket-comfortable Collins under center

4) Fat Albert

5) 'Dre Davis must help Texans by establishing good field position, and possibly breaking one

Go read it.  It is excellent stuff.

"VY Might Not be Cut Out for the NFL - And That's OK"

A link I saw at With Leather to an article at Slate. A different, intelligent viewpoint on the Vince Young sitution.

How did our recruits fare?

It's going to be a long day until our Horns kick off, so let's fill some of that time with updates on how our recruits are performing.  We already know very well how Gilbert and Paden Kelly did, but what about everyone else?

I'll start:

RB Chris Whaley of Madisonville racked up 207 yards rushing on 20 carries (a healthy 10.35 yds/att) with 4 tds on runs of 28, 22, 42, and 59.  The dude is a bruiser at 6'3'' and 230+ pounds, running in the mid 4.5 range.  Looks like a great RB/FB hybrid, or a hell of a linebacker with his size and speed if Mack wants him to.

WR Greg Timmons of Aldine Eisenhower and TE Barrett Matthews of North Shore played against each other Friday night, with North Shore winning 33-14.  Timmons caught one ball for 34 yards, and Matthews had 2 for 38, including a 36-yard TD.

How'd everyone else do?

Take a few minutes from your day and head on over to Music City Mircles to witness a hilarious pissing contest between Big Blue Shoe and the MCM community. And just when you think it's dying down, another laugh out loud topic/accusation comes up.

Augustin dazzles in predraft workout for Blazers

Article from the Oregonian states the Blazers may be falling in love with DJ. He may not be around at 13 when they pick, but if he is it looks like they'll snatch him up. Sounds like in his workout other people found out what we already know.

Linklater's Augie Doc

Director (and baseball fan, and Austin resident) Rick Linklater has created a documentary about Augie Garrido titled Inning by Inning: A Portrait of a Coach. From the site: "The film profiles this remarkable coach's career and unique approach to teaching the game with unprecedented access to his team meetings, practices, and conversations with players during games."

Should be very interesting and very well done. Plus, proceeds from the screening go to the Austin Film Society and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow (May 27) for the screening, which will be at the Paramount Theater on June 3.
