The NBA Draft Age Limit Debate

As we all know this is the slow time of the year for sports, so I thought I'd throw out a question for debate, just to pass the time.

So I was browsing Rivals.com and came a across a story about 2008 5-star point guard prospect Brandon Jennings.  Jennings has committed to play at Arizona next year, but is waiting on final grades to see if he'll be eligible.  The story goes on to say that if declared ineligible Jennings plans on going to Europe to play for a year then declaring for the draft.  The story then eludes to the fact that even if he is academically eligible Jennings is considering going to Europe anyway.

Rivals Link

This story floods my mind with questions.  Why don't the top high school seniors in the country just go and get paid to play for a team in Europe for a year then enter the draft?  Isn't is better for them to get to focus on nothing but improving their games for the League rather than go to college and worry about school, dumb NCAA regulations, limited practice time, etc?  And if you're a freshman or sophomore in high school who's aiming to play in the League, why not move to Europe and start playing professionally over there at 15 and 16 to get ready like the Euro kids do?  Would a Euro-type pro league with no age limits that would serve as a "farm league" to the NBA work in the US?

I love college hoops as much as anyone and want to see it thrive, but with the age rule forcing kids to masquerade as college students for a year the game is hurting.  It seems to me the prospect of playing professionally overseas to prepare for the draft is infinitely greater than playing at a college for a year getting paid with a scholarship I'd never end up using.  Will that become the new trend?

Just wanted to see what y'all thought.

Mack: Chiles to get looks as WR

Here's an article by everyone's favorite AAS writer where Mack says Chiles will stay at QB, but they'll look at ways to get him the ball as a WR.

Bohls' article

I'm wondering what this means for Sherrod Harris.  Does he get a better chance at playing?  How much are they looking at playing Chiles at WR?  I love that Mack is looking to get the best 11 on the field no matter what.  Its encouraging.

Thoughts?

Poll
Using Chiles at WR and QB:
Great move that might make him our most important player

Could be good if the coaches actually follow through

I'd prefer Chiles remained exclusively at QB

Devin Ebanks

Any body have any news regarding Devin Ebanks and his recruitment?  I know he visited Texas on April 26th, and has a couple visits left to Memphis and Rutgers, but was wondering if there's any information floating around.  Last I heard West Virginia was the team to beat, but I know things can change quickly in the world of recruiting.  I think he would be a great addition to the team next year if we could get him.  Just looking for an update.

Perrilloux Returns

According to cbssports.com Ryan Perrilloux's suspension is now over, and its appears only a matter of time before he returns.  I wish I could say I'm shocked, but honestly this is exactly what I expected.  So my question is, what exactly does this guy have to do to get kicked off the team?  Can we now offically put LSU in the same class as Florida St. and Oklahoma when joking about teams full of guys who don't run out of second chances?  I know Texas has had its share of off-field issues, but very few, if any, have been repeat offenders.

By the way, here's the link:  http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegefoo...

And by the way, how lucky are we to have missed out on this kid.

Commit #16

According to orangebloods.com Texas got commitment #16 from DE Alex Okafor from Pflugerville.  He picked Texas over LSU and Stanford.  I'm excited and think its a great pick up for the Horns.  The most important guys left are Jamarkus McFarland, Mason Walters, Kevin Brent, and Dexter Pratt.  Mack continues to do a great job.

GT fires Chan Gailey

Gailey isn't the interesting part in this so much as this very probably means DC John Tenuta is now looking for a job.  I know there were many, many rumors about him coming to Texas last year, and I would love to see him come in this off-season.  There's no evidence so far to think any changes will be made, but if they are Tenuta appears available.
