Senior DT Rodrique Wright became the third Longhorn in the past four years to be named a finalist for the Lombardi award, given annually to the nation's top defensive lineman. The three other finalists were DE Elvis Dumervil of Louisville, and LB A.J. Hawk of Ohio State and LB Paul Posluszny of Penn State.
Wright won't win this award, as his individual numbers aren't that gaudy, and he's up against some truly remarkable defensive players, but his nomination as a finalist is really a team award that reflects how stout the Texas D has been this year.
Congratulations to Rodrique Wright on becoming a finalist. Two more big games from the Texas defense and the Horns will have their shot at a title in Pasadena.
