Race For National Title Not Over For Texas Just Yet

Oh, sure, the BCS and AP National Titles may be out of reach at this point, but Texas fans can delight in still being right in the thick of a national title race yet. Yes, I speak of the race for the Sagarin Cup.

Sagarin says: Hook 'Em!

Browsing through Jeff Sagarin's weekly computer ratings, I noticed something that made my eyes bulge: Texas is ranked #2 in Pure Points. Mind you, this is -not- the formula used by the BCS, but be comforted: Jeff says that "PURE POINTS is also known as PREDICTOR, BALLANTINE, RHEINGOLD, WHITE OWL and is the best single PREDICTOR of future games."

It's not that fun this year, since the BCS uses the stodgy non-margin of victory formulas, but we'd be having a hoot of a time with this if the old rules applied and outraged fans across the country groaned and moaned about Texas still being ranked #2 by some computers.

For now, we'll just have to try to finish strong and win the most meaningless national championship in the country.

Not that I wouldn't celebrate.
