The fourth future Longhorn in this class is Nebraska native Matt Hill. Hill is a 6'10" 225 lb power forward from Lincoln. He looks like Screech from Saved by the Bell but comes with some serious game.
Hill is a three star recruit and the 26th best power forwards in this class according to Rivals.com. He was destined for a mid major school before seeing his stock rise dramatically with solid play in the summer after his junior year. Matt took official recruiting trips to Utah, Purdue, Nebraska, and Texas. All four schools along with Gonzaga, Nevada, West Virginia, Virginia, Creighton, and UCLA offered scholarships.
Hill eventually chose the Longhorns last October. Matt visited Austin and was hosted by Brad Buckman the previous month. He came away impressed with the basketball facilities, Coach Barnes, strength coach Todd Wright, and with the city of Austin. Hill is considered the best player to come out of Nebraska in years. His commitment to Texas was especially disappointing to Nebraska coaches who were the first to offer him a scholarship.
Hill led Lincoln Southeast High School to the playoffs each of the last three years. According to scouting reports and evaluations by his coaches, Matt is an athletic big man who can score with either hand around the basket. He runs the floor well and is a good shot blocker. He exhibits great footwork in the low post while also feeling comfortable facing the basket. His upside is tremendous but he must gain weight and strength.
If Coach Barnes elects to push the tempo next year with a three guard lineup, Hill will easily fit into the lineup in the frontcourt. It will be more difficult for him to contribute in a half court game unless he puts on 20-30 lbs of muscle this off-season.
