Dominance Revisited

For months we have have all noted the supreme dominance of the Texas atheltic program this season. The latest entry from the Bevo Blog puts it all in persepective.

The men's athletic program fields nine teams which compete in the Big 12. Seven won conference titles this season and the other two finished second. WOW!

The Texas men's athletic department is nearing the end of an incredible, record-breaking season for its nine sports teams.

All nine of the teams finished either first or second in their respective Big 12 play. That's the first time a men's program has accomplished this feat since the conference kicked off in 1996. Seven of the teams won a conference title.

To put this number in perspective, no other Big 12 school won more than one conference title this year.

The Longhorns won conference titles in football, basketball, baseball, track and field (indoor and outdoor), swimming and diving and tennis. The golf and cross country teams finished second.

Texas has won 30 conference titles in the past 10 years. That's 13 more than second-place Nebraska's all-time titles.

For those keeping score, here's a breakdown from the Texas sports information department:

Big 12 Conference men's titles

Texas....................30

Nebraska.............17

Oklahoma State..13

Colorado.............11

Baylor.....................9

Kansas...................7

Oklahoma...............7

Texas A&M..............5

Iowa State................2

Texas Tech..............2

Kansas State............1

Missouri...................0

It's a good time to be a Longhorn fan might be the understatement of the year.
