This weekend will be pretty busy for the football coaches. Not only is this the first weekend the entire 2006 recruiting class will be on campus as students, but also, there is a camp being held for the 2007 recruits. All 19 current commits and some major target recruits will be in Austin, as well as others fighting for a scholarship offer.
The biggest story I'll be watching is the Lennon Creer saga. The highly recruited RB our of Tatum, TX should be on hand and the coaches have given him a June 4th deadline to make a decision in regards to their offer. This is shaping up to be the exact same situation as the Ryan Mallett saga. Lennon started out a huge lean toward Texas, then suddenly, and unexpectedly re-opened the recruiting process. If Creer doesn't commit this weekend I expect a huge push for John Clay out of Wisconsin, another highly recruited RB.
Another big story to watch will be that of gigantuan defensive tackle Joseph Barksdale. Rivals.com has already labeled him a 5-star recruit and he has Texas listed very high on his list. Many believe that once he gets the red carpet treatment from Mack and Co. he should have Texas at #1 on his list. We'll see where that goes, but that would be a huge pick-up for the `Horns.
Richetti Jones is expected to make a visit to Austin this weekend as well, but I don't expect any word on his recruitment. He has already said that he wants to take all of his visits and experience the recruiting process.
As good as recruiting has gone already, it might get better for the Longhorns very soon.
