By most accounts, this has been a very good season for the Texas men's baseball team. The young Longhorns won the Big 12 regular season title, were chosen to host another regional, and were awarded the #3 national seed. But the Stanford Cardinal created a difficult detour in the road to Omaha with their 12-8 victory over the Horns this afternoon at the Disch.
Stanford is now 2-0 and will play for the championship on Sunday at 4 PM CST. Texas meanwhile faces a much more difficult task. The Horns must now survive NC State on Sunday at Noon CST in order to set up a rematch with Stanford. That doesn't sound too difficult. Unfortunately, that rematch would take place almost immediately following the conclusion of the first game. And if the Horns are able to topple Stanford (who has now beaten Texas three out of four this season), they would have to win again on Monday.
So, Augie's club needs two wins on Sunday and another on Monday to survive. Remember Texas came back after losing the first game at Mississippi last season in the Super Regionals before rolling to a national title.
