Recruiting Update: Texas Pounding Rivals 100 List

Nominally, it's the Rivals100 - the scouting network's list of the 100 best football prospects in America for 2007. This year, though, it reads a lot like the Texas100. With 9 of the top 100 already committed, and at least four more that Texas is right in the mix for, Mack Brown is having a historic recruiting year, even by his standards.

Rivals100 players already committed to Texas
Tray Allen, OL (#8)
John Chiles, ATH (#12)
John Brantley, QB (#13)
Michael Huey, OL (#32)
Curtis Brown, DB (#36)
Andrew Jones, DT (#56)
Ben Wells, DB (#69)
Malcolm Williams, WR (#76)
Aundre McGaskey, OL (#92)

Rivals100 players Texas still might get
*Noel Devine, RB (#16) Texas has yet to make an official offer, and it's probably a longshot that the Florida native comes to Austin, but you never know. If Creer passes on Texas, look for Mack to step up the schmoozing of Devine.

*Joseph Barksdale, DT (#17) The enormous defensive tackle from Detroit came to Austin this weekend for the prospect invite camp and left very impressed.

*Lennon Creer, RB (#38) Mack Brown supposedly set a June 4th deadline for Creer to decide, for obvious reasons. No word yet on how things went yesterday, or whether he accepted Texas' offer, but he'd be a great recruit to have in the wings for the post-Jamaal Charles era.

*Richetti Jones, DE (#40) At a position the Horns are looking hard to fill, Jones is coveted by the Longhorns, but he's made it clear he has no intentions of being an early commit. We won't know about Jones until much later. At this rate, though, the class may already be filled.
