Those of us who spend the bulk of our days reading, writing, and generally obssessing about Texas Longhorns football can forget that it is, at the end of the day, a game. This doesn't mean that the outcome of this game isn't incredibly important to us, or that there's something wrong with us for caring so much.
But we should be mindful that there's more to life than football. And while the great game of football remains one of our great unifying traditions, it's important that we take time to tend to other important matters in our lives and communities.
Fortunately, this fall, Longhorn fans will have an opportunity to do both. Burnt Orange Nation is proud to help sponsor and promote this year's Throwdown Before The Showdown charity concert on Friday, September 8th here in Austin at Waterloo Park. Part of the proceeds from the concert will directly benefit the Captial Area Food Bank, one of Greater Austin's best and most effective charity organiizations. Additionally, concert attendees who bring two healthy, non-perishable canned goods to the event will receive a coupon for five free wings from Pluckers Wing Bar.
Of course, the concert itself is going to be reason enough to attend, and will feature an evening before pep rally featuring (we hope) both the University of Texas and Ohio State marching bands. In addition, the concert lineup is first rate, and includes a special guest appearance by Cowboy Troy:
4:00 Dysfunkshun Junkshun
5:20 Brandon Rhyder
6:10 A wing eating contest
6:30 Kevin Fowler
7:45 Pep Rally
8:45 Robert Earl Keen
Tickets to the concert are only $17.00, a steal for this great lineup, and well worth it considering the cause that it benefits. Burnt Orange Nation will be there, and we want to see as many of you joining us as possible. No matter what your plans are for game day, this is a terrific way to spend your Friday night, and a chance to help your community during football season.
Readers with questions should consult the Throwdown Before The Showdown web page, or drop me a line personally. We'll continue to update you on the event between now and game day. We hope you'll make plans to join us on Friday, September 8th.
