Texas Baseball Opens Season Today

It's now February, which means the Texas Longhorns baseball team is ready to take the diamond for the first time in 2007. The Longhorns, voted the Big 12's best in the preseason by the conference's coaches, will open season play today at 3:00 p.m. in the first of a three game series against the University of San Diego. Note that the series will be played at the Dell Diamond.

Right hander Randy Boone will start this afternoon's contest for the 'Horns, while southpaw Josh Romanski is expected to open things on the mound for USD. Boone, a 6'3" senior from Yoakum spent the bulk of 2006 working out of the bullpen after he missed a week due to elbow soreness in late February.

If you're free to duck out of the office early this afternoon, head down to the Dell Diamond to catch the season opener. It's not the same as catching a game on a perfect sunny afternoon at the Disch, but it should be a fun way to spend your Friday, regardless.
