Backs Against the Wall

The Longhorn baseball squad returns to action this afternoon at the Dell Diamond with their backs pressed squarely against the wall. After falling to UC-Irvine 3-1 on Saturday evening, the Longhorns staved off elimination yesterday afternoon with a thrilling 7-4 defeat of Wake Forest in 12 innings. The victory set up a rematch with the Anteaters last night.

Texas struck first last night in the the top of the 2nd innning when Chaise Fuller doubled home Bradley Suttle, but surrendered the lead just an inning later when the Anteaters plated three runs in the third. Texas rebounded in the 4th however, knotting the score at 3 thanks to 2-out, 2-run double by Josh Prince.

In the sixth, with the skies of Williamson County looking ominously dark, the Longhorns took the lead again briefly after Brett Lewis drove in two runs despite being down 0-2 in the count. As I mentioned though, the lead was shortlived, as the Anteaters reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the 6th with two more runs. The game was called in the bottom of the 7th inning, with the Anteaters at bat. That means the 'Horns have 6 outs left to bounce back and extend their season. A victory would force one final game to decide the regional's victor, while a loss would end the Longhorns 2007 campaign.

If you can, head down to the Dell Diamond at 1 pm to help cheer the Longhorns on to victory. Hopefully the time off will have killed any momentum the Antears may have been enjoying last night.
