Another Tuesday, another edition of EDSBS Live! with Orson and me.
If you listened to last week's show (you did, didn't you??), you won't be surprised to know we're a little apprehensive about moving forward. How do you follow up a Phil Steele slam session? I only recovered from last week's show yesterday at dinner, when the Philly Cheeseteak I ate reminded me that there are other things in life besides college football brilliance.
So, onward we go. Appropriately, our topic tonight is underdogs. You might categorize the relative success of tonight's show in that manner.
What: EDSBS Live! online radio.
Where: At NowLive, where you can chat with each other and the show hosts throughout the broadcast in the online forum (which has gotten damn lively). To phone in to the show, just call (310) 984-7600.
Who: Tonight we talk to underdog extraordinaire Travis McGriff, he of 5-8, 185 pound Florida Gator fame. He graduated in 1999 and after a brief stint in the NFL has played in the Arena Football League since then. This year he'll help kick off the new All American Football League.
Four Questions: As always, our four questions for the night.
1. Adopt an underdog for the 2007 season. Team or player - you decide.
I'm pulling for San Jose State this year. No one ever talks about 'em, but they quietly had a nine-win season under Dick Tomey in 2006. And yeah, that's the real reason they're my underdog for the year - Tomey. How do you not love that guy? I honestly believe Mack Brown and Texas don't reach the heights that they have if Tomey doesn't make a stop in Austin.
2. Which underdog are you most looking forward to seeing fall flat on their face?
The 12th Man. Whichever Aggie dude they choose to be the token 12th man this year - I'll be rooting against him.
What? That's offensive, A&M? Hey, I can't be nice all the time.
So sorry.
3. Name your favorite underdog football player of all time.
Drew Brees. He's a superstar right now, of course, but it wasn't preordained. People have been doubting Drew for as long as I've known him - and I've known him since he was eight years old.
I still haven't forgiven John Mackovic for not recruiting Brees.
4. Tell us about your biggest sexual upset.
Uh, this one's for the callers. If they dare.
See you tonight at 6:30.
