Morning Coffee Lusts For Darrell Scott

Augie ball nears. The Longhorn baseball team's opening weekend is a month away, but UT will host a fan appreciation day on February 17th at Disch-Falkl Field. Gates to the park will open at 9 a.m.; once inside, fans will be able to attain player autographs and play catch on the field. In addition to an intrasquad scrimmage, national anthem auditions will be conducted.

The season will begin February 22-24 against Virginia Commonwealth, as Texas re-dedicates Disch-Falk Field.

Enjoy the show. Kirk Bohls has a column on Kevin Durant which is worth a read; in it we learn Durant talks to DJ Augustin every day and believes he'll be in the NBA next season. That's not exactly a surprise, but the quote more or less confirms what most fans already believe: this is it for DJ.

Some things never change. It used to be true that you couldn't talk about Major without talking Simms. Turns out that's still true today.

Darrell Scott update. Nothing new from Rivals yet on Mack Brown's in-home visit with Darrell Scott. Though there are conflicting reports about which way Scott is leaning at the moment, the buzz I'm hearing from Austin is that the coaches think they're going to win this battle.

AW and I were talking last night about this situation and agreed on two big points: first, that it's nice to have Texas battling for a kid so late in the game (we're usually one of the few teams with no news at this time each year), and second, that it's great seeing Mack putting the full court press on a premier out-of-state talent.

Signing day may be the most exciting one in years for Texas fans. It sure would fit with the offseason theme so far, wouldn't it?
