If this is the Austin Wood we're going to see the rest of the season, Texas has itself a Friday starter. The junior improved to 2-1 overall with a masterful 7.2 innings which included 8 strikeouts and only 2 runs. Texas (now 9-2) managed only 6 hits on the day and 1 earned run, but managed to take advantage of a pair of Cardinal fielding errors and jump on Stanford early for the 5-2 victory.
Stanford junior Jeremy Bleich (who is Isidore Newman High School's most famous athletic alum since Eli and Peyton Manning) pitched valiantly in the losing effort. Texas freshman Chance Ruffin gave up only 1 hit over 1.1 innings for the save.
The Friday victory gives Texas a great chance at getting a series victory, with Kenn Kasparek going for Texas tomorrow at 2:00 and Cole Green on the mound Sunday at 1:00, for those that are interested in attending.
Look for a more detailed series review once it's all over.
