Texas Welcomes TAMU-CC for a Midweek Series

The Beach Aggies (we have unilaterally chosen to rename the Islanders) come to the Disch today for a Tuesday-Wednesday two game set that Texas will use in preparation for the biggest weekend of the year so far, as OU visits on Friday. You can watch both games at Texas Sports. All three games against the Sooners will also be available with online video.

As Sweed4Heisman pointed out in the comments yesterday, this pair of contests against Corpus can be characterized as a sort of "final tune-up" before the schedule really gets going. Unlike Dallas Baptist or UTSA, TAMU-CC is a pretty bad team at 13-22 overall and 5-13 in the Southland Conference. But once they are back on the coast, the schedule gets absolutely brutal for the Longhorns: OU this weekend, Rice next week, followed by consecutive series against ranked-for-the-first-time-ever Kansas State, top-ten Baylor, and finally the suddenly unranked but still dangerous Aggies. This is when it gets fun, as the vast majority of Texas' remaining games are against some of the best teams in the conference and in the country.

All of the storylines and the questions about what will or will not come together will culminate and be answered over the next few weeks. After the K-State series we will have a much better idea of what kind of shot these Longhorns have of returning to the promised land of Rosenblatt Stadium.
