Inside the Numbers: Texas Versus Oklahoma State

A wedding this weekend kept me from watching the game and a lack of cable from recording it, but here goes.

  • 1956 -- The four-game home losing streak is the first since 1956, the year before Darrell Royal became the coach at Texas.
  • 6 -- The six losses this season are the most since John Mackovic's final season in 1997.
  • 30 -- The number of days since Texas has won a football game.
  • Texas has now lost six of the last seven games. Mack Brown's team did not lose six games total in the last three seasons combined.
  • 10 -- Number of days left in the season if the 'Horns fail to win each of the last two games.
  • 58 -- Number of days since Texas had even the shortest of winning streaks.
  • 12 -- Length in games of the Longhorn winning streak snapped by the Oklahoma State victory.
  • 1944 -- The last time that Oklahoma State won a football game in Austin.
  • 23 -- Number of points scored by Oklahoma State in the second quarter.
  • 58 -- Number of days since Texas scored 23 or more points in an entire game.
  • 97 -- National ranking in scoring offense for Greg Davis and his bumbling crew. The five teams directly ahead of the 'Horns? Ball State, Kent State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Minnesota, and Colorado.
  • 34 -- Speaking of Colorado, the Buffaloes dropped 34 points against Iowa State, 13 more than the Longhorns were able to score. And this after losing to one of the worst teams in the FBS and having rag-armed Cody Hawkins as the quarterback.
  • 532 -- Number of yards gained by Oklahoma State against Texas, despite letting off the gas in the second half. At least Texas has the moral victory of holding them to below their season average.
  • 7.1 -- Yards per play for Dana Holgorsen's offense. The last time the Longhorns averaged that many yards per play? 2005.
  • 67% -- Red zone efficiency scoring touchdowns for Texas. The only problem? Mack Brown's team went more than half the game between appearances in the red zone.
  • 2 -- Number of meaningless touchdowns scored by the Longhorns, about the only thing the offense has done well this season.
  • 100 -- Percentage of touchdowns scored by Texas against Oklahoma State that were meaningless.
  • 62.5 -- Third-down conversion percent by Oklahoma State, nearly 20% above their season average.
  • 43 -- Number of catches this season by Mike Davis, a single-season Texas record.
  • 67 -- Length in yards of pass hauled in by Justin Blackmon that essentially ended the game in the second quarter.
  • 47 -- Longest pass play by Texas this season.
  • 60 -- Longest play from scrimmage this season for the 'Horns.
  • 0 -- Number of offensive touches in the last two games by the player with the longest play from scrimmage for Texas this season.
  • 0 -- Amount of sense that makes.
