The Longhorns fell to 1-1 yesterday, losing 6-5 to New Mexico in a tough one. Texas jumped out to a 5-2 lead after two innings, and the Lobos steadily ate away at the lead until finally forcing Chance Ruffin's first blown save and then scoring the game winner in the ninth thanks in part to an Ruffin.

The game-tying run came in the form of a solo bomb, which certainly doesn't do much to ease fears about Ruffin's propensity to give up the long ball in the closer role. Interestingly, with Kyle Lusson's first career homerun on Friday and the Lobos' two blasts yesterday, UFCUDFF is off to a sloppy start in its key role of keeping the ball in the park. The Longhorns' home stadium has allowed an uncharacteristic three round-trippers in its first two games of 2010.

Brandon Workman gave up nine hits and three earned runs through six innings to a good-hitting New Mexico ball club, which is a respectable first outing of the year. Andrew McKirahan and Stayton Thomas combined on a scoreless seventh before giving way to Ruffin for the final two frames.

This will serve as your open thread for the weekend's rubber game, which begins at 1 PM CST. Austin Dicharry will have his first opportunity to prove that he belongs in the weekend rotation over Cole Green. The Sunday games for the first few weeks are worthy of your attention, as Dicharry will be getting the starts but his position as the Sunday starter cannot be considered intrenched until he has thrown some solid games.
