The Texas Longhorns baseball team gets a working vacation this weekend in a three game series versus Hawaii. This is a pretty good Hawaii squad, good enough to split a 4-game series with Oregon last weekend. The winner in three of Hawaii's four games last weekend scored just four runs, so the Texas pitching advantage may definitely be needed.
For the Horns, Texas needs to take 2 of 3 in order to avoid a disappointing start to the 2011 campaign. Texas dropped a midweek game to A&M Corpus Christi on Tuesday 8-7 but fans shouldn't read too much into the result as Texas threw 8 different pitchers in an effort to get many pieces game experience. Of interest, however, is the fact that Austin Dicharry still has not thrown this season, for which we have no explanation.
On offense, Paul Montalbano's .600 OBP has likely earned him another start in left field, and the offense could really start clicking once veterans Tant Shepherd, Cohl Walla and Jonathan Walsh start hitting. While the Horns haven't been tearing the cover off the ball yet this season, it should be noted that Texas has scored 8, 1, 7, 16 and 7 runs this season, so poor pitching rather than a complete inability to score runs is to blame for much of the somewhat slow start. Possible pitching matchups and lineup after the jump.
