Big 12 Tournament: Bubble Teams Fight To Stay Alive in Day 1 Action

The Big 12 Tournament gets underway today with four opening round games featuring three teams on the NCAA Tournament bubble.  Baylor, Colorado, and Missouri will all be fighting for their NCAA Tournament lives in the Big 12 Tournament's opening rounds, all needing at least one win to have a shot at earning a ticket to the Dance.

Game 1: (8) Nebraska vs (9) Oklahoma State  |  11:30 a.m.  |  Big 12 Network

The Cornhuskers were looking good after a home win over Texas, but they promptly lost three of their last four, including road tilts at Iowa State and Colorado. The home win over Missouri was big, but their NCAA Tournament chances require not just a win over Oklahoma State today, but probably over Kansas in the quarterfinals as well. The Cowboys only hope to dance is four straight wins in the Big 12 Tournament.

UPDATE:  Oklahoma State 53   Nebraska 52,  Final Score.  The Huskers are headed to the NIT.
Game 2: (5) Colorado vs (12) Iowa State  |  2:00 p.m.  |  Big 12 Network

Colorado got one result they needed last night when Butler held off Wisconsin-Milwaukee for the Horizon crown, but they're still widely considered one of the last four in the Tournament field, and they'll slide to the wrong side of that line if they fall to Iowa State in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament.

UPDATE:  Colorado 77   Iowa State 75,  Final Score.  Big time finish by the Buffs to keep NCAA dreams alive.
Game 3: (7) Baylor vs (10) Oklahoma |  6:00 p.m.  |  Big 12 Network

The Bears have a pitiful resume, with just three quality wins all year -- two home wins over A&M and Nebraska, plus a road win at Reed Arena. It's all empty calories beyond that, which means Baylor has to get hot in the Big 12 Tournament if they want to dance. Although wins over Oklahoma and Texas would get them back on the bubble, they really need to make the finals to have a reasonable chance. The Sooners defeated Baylor in Waco on February 2nd, so even a win today can't be considered a sure thing. Only Scott Drew could do so little with so much.

UPDATE:  Oklahoma 84   Baylor 67,  Final Score.  Terrible season ends terribly.
Game 4: (6) Missouri vs (11) Texas Tech  |  8:30 p.m.  |  Big 12 Network

Missouri isn't considered to be on the bubble, but should they? The Tigers lost three straight to close the year and managed just a single road win during conference play, at Iowa State. Still, the Tigers can count themselves comfortably in with a win over Texas Tech thanks to a respectable non-conference schedule that included three quality wins over Vanderbilt, Illinois, and Old Dominion.

UPDATE:  Missouri 88   Texas Tech 84,  Final Score.  Tigers end skid behind Denmon.
