Sam Stafford lasted only 3.1 innings on Saturday and the clutch hit eluded the Texas offense as Kansas defeated the Longhorns 4-2 in the series finale. Erich Weiss was 2-4 with a homer (#7 for the team) but it wasn't enough for the Horns. Despite the loss, Texas takes two of three from Kansas and claims another conference series win. With a .388 batting average and .520 OBP, it's time to start asking where Erich Weiss fits into the pantheon of Texas hitters under Augie Garrido. The freshman's season may not be the best a Texas hitter has ever had, but, considering this year's bat constraints, the list of his superiors cannot be too long.
In other Big XII news, Texas A&M grabbed a 1/2 game lead over Texas on Saturday thanks to a second win over Oklahoma State. The Aggies grabbed a full game lead with a sweep on Sunday, which makes the Ags the team to beat in the conference with just three series to go. Apologies for the shortness of this recap, but a nice road series win leaves Texas solidly in second place with just nine games left in conference play. Texas State awaits on Tuesday before a critical home series versus Oklahoma next weekend.
