Texas actually looked relatively good on offense in a 6-4 loss to Missouri yesterday, racking up 11 hits including a massive homerun by Erich Weiss. But they stranded 10 runners on the base paths and the committee of pitchers was shaky at times, and a Mizzou team playing for its postseason life took the opener from the Longhorns. Texas thus opens the losers' bracket this morning at 9 AM against Baylor, and the assumption here is that Taylor Jungmann will be on the hill.
It's debatable how much this game actually matters. It could very well be the case that, win or lose, the Horns have done enough to be a top-eight national seed. What is certain, though, is that they have not done enough to be comfortable. Texas should treat this one as a must-win, as it is a massive advantage to be in position to host a super regional and this team could very easily be on the outside looking in if their last three games before the Big Dance are all losses. Or the committee won't care.
