Texas evened the series with Kansas yesterday, with Parker French once again dominating on the hill in the friendly confines of Disch Falk Field. After yesterday, in which he went the first seven innings of Texas's 3-0 victory, he has now thrown an incredible 32.1 straight shutout innings at home. That makes this part even more important: finishing second in the conference behind presumptive winner Baylor would give Texas a decent shot at hosting a regional under the theory that two team from the Big 12 are likely to be given that honor. Winning today and then taking the Aggie series net weekend would go a long way toward making that a reality, and then we get Super Parker French instead of Still Very Good Parker French for the postseason. Just a thought.
In any event, the game followed the script we expected for the entire weekend but didn't get on Friday: Kansas's pitchers were solid, Texas had to scrounge for runs, but it didn't take all that many to beat the weak-hitting Jayhawks. One in the first, one in the fourth, and one in the seventh did the trick as Hoby Milner and Corey Knebel combined for a perfect eighth and ninth to preserve the shutout.
