After Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown made public the news that the Longhorn Network will televise the first two football games of the season, all those same frustrations that surfaced last year when the network wasn't available for most Texas fans across the country came to the fore once agin.
While our own Peter Bean believes that the major breakthrough that the burnt orange faithful have been pining for is nigh and that one major carrier will give it to the demands on ESPN, which would spark the landslide of carriers coming on for which everyone has been waiting for roughly a year.
Over at Barking Carnival, srr50 has two great looks at the network from a business perspective, starting out with a history of cartels in college football and how they eventually gave rise to conference-specific networks and the LHN, followed by a some interesting thoughts on how regional networks are growing in popularity and may be the wave of the future as the entire landscape changes due to market forces and technology.
If the best-case scenario doesn't go down, here's a list of locations that will be showing the game, courtesy of the network itself:

There are also some small carriers in the Houston area and in the Valley, but it does not appear that any establishments in those areas have the network. If you know of any, please share the knowledge so we can amend the list. Here is a list of cities that have Verizon FiOS (and, therefore, may have a bar/restaurant with the game) and Grande is available in some parts of Dallas, Midland/Odessa, San Marcos, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Austin.
Some friendly advice -- if you are lucky enough to live somewhere with a bar/restaurant that has access to the game, getting there early may be a necessity.
Since this is a community, anyone with access to the game comfortable with a horde of Longhorn fans descending on their humble abode, loaded no doubt with something for the grill and something to slake a thirst, well, feel free let it be known. After all, holding out on your fellow Longhorns? Not cool, yo.
