Texas Baseball Takes on West Virginia; Preview and Open Thread

Texas beat UT Pan American 6-1 on Tuesday but the offensive execution with men on base was offensive once again. WVU travels to Austin for the first time as a Big 12 program as Texas desperately seeks a sweep.

The Horns beat UT Pan American 6-1 on Tuesday (good). Texas got 10 hits (good). Texas drew 12 walks (good). Three Texas pitchers combined to give up just one run on five hits (good). Texas only scored six runs (mediocre) while leaving 15 men on base (awful). The Horns left the bases loaded three times and Texas had another brutal day scoring runs. At least Corey Knebel came back from his one game suspension.

Texas is 20-15. Their RPI is 46 per Boyds World. They are 4-8 in conference despite having lost those 8 games by only 14 runs combined. The Mountaineers are 4-5 in conference with a home series victory over Texas Tech and series losses to Baylor and Kansas State. Texas must have a series win and realistically needs a sweep of WVU and three other series victories to have any chance at the postseason.

Harrison Musgrave (5-1, 3.15 ERA) vs Parker French

Dan Dierdorff (2-4, 3.60 ERA) vs Dillon Peters

John Means (3-2, 3.15 ERA) vs Nathan Thornhill.

Of note, the 1983 national championship team will be honored at halftime of Saturday's contest, so hopefully they won't feel too ashamed of the product on the field.

Tonight's game starts at 7 PM at UFCUDFF. Game is on the Longhorn Network and this'll be your open thread.

Bring on the brooms!
