There's some good news for Texas Longhorns wide receiver Cayleb Jones in regards to his pending assault charge, as Chip Brown of Orangebloods reported on Tuesday afternoon:

Playing the role of jealous ex-boyfriend to the hilt, Jones is being charged for (allegedly) sucker-punching Texas tennis player Joseph Swaysland outside of a nightclub downtown because he was unhappy that Swaysland was dating women's volleyball player Khat Bell, who had previously dated Jones.
The incident was reportedly not the first between the two and Jones was suspended from all team activities after the news broke, though the Texas coaching staff had allowed the Austin High product to practice before the charges were officially filed.
The guess here is that the district attorney's office decided the fractured jaw by Swaysland would be tough to prosecute as a felony aggravated assault, which requires "serious bodily injury."
Downgrading the charge greatly reduces the odds that Jones could be kicked off the team for the incident, though he could still face a multi-game suspension if he enters a plea or is found guilty.
Jones caught two passes for 35 yards as a true freshman and also carried the ball once for 10 yards. He was expected to play a larger role in the offense in 2013 with the departure of Marquise Goodwin and an offense that will feature more wide receivers in base sets.
