It won't be too long before Bastrop cornerback Antwuan Davis enrolls at Texas and starts his career as a Longhorn this summer. Davis spoke with special contributor Evan Massey on Sunday evening.
Q. What made you choose to sign with the Longhorns? What convinced you that they were the right place for you?
A. The coaches and the environment made the difference.
Q. What would you tell those who aren't familiar with your game, to expect from you on the field?
A. Just a physical and speed game is my base -- that's what describes me.
Q. What is it like playing for one of the best coaches in college football in Mack Brown?
A. It's great. Even better playing for the best DB coach in college football, Duane Akina!
Q. Have you become close with any of your teammates in particular?
A. Yeah. Mostly all of the defensive backs like Quandre [Diggs] and [Mykkele] Thompson, and Josh [Turner]. They are all great guys and I can't wait to work with them.
Q. What would you say is going to be the biggest difficulty in the jump from high school to college football?
A. The school work. I know I'm a hard worker for football, but people tell me you got to manage your classwork.
Q. Change of pace on this question. What do you like to do in your free time? What is your favorite food?
A. I go to the movies with friends and I play dominoes. My favorite food is Chik-fil-A.
Q. What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe a certain play or game?
A. The Army All-American game. I blocked a field goal.
Q. At what age did you begin playing the game of football? When did you realize you had this kind of talent?
A. I was 9 when I started playing football. I realized I was good in 7th grade.
Q. Who has made the biggest impact on your career to help get you to this point?
A. My dad and mom.
Q. If you were speaking to a young corner with dreams of playing D1 football, what would you tell him?
A. Working hard and learning technique is everything.
