Baylor Bears head coach Art Briles put to rest on Friday any lingering hope on the Texas side that Briles would interview for the head coaching job in Austin, releasing a statement that he will remain in Waco.
The statements comes two days after a report from the Austin American-Statesmen held that Briles was willing to talk and would take the job if offered.
But there was no movement on Thursday in the direction of an interview after the Bears lost Wednesday night's BCS game against Central Florida and Friday's news should end speculation about Briles ending up in Austin.
Here's the statement Briles released through the school:
"I have no desire to pursue other coaching positions. As I've said many times, I am both humbled and honored to be the head coach at Baylor University, and believe we have something special going here. I look forward to leading the Bears onto the field next fall at McLane Stadium and defending our Big 12 championship that our players and coaches worked so hard to win this season."
"There is tremendous excitement for our program's future, and I look forward to many more great seasons at Baylor. There is tremendous commitment from our University leadership, athletic administration, coaches and student-athletes - it truly is a great time to be a Baylor Bear."
And to be sure, the construction of McLane Stadium, the lucrative contract extension for Briles that will pay him in excess of $4 million per season, and the construction of a new nutrition center for Baylor athletes all speak to the school's commitment to maintain recent success on the football field.
So the Texas coaching search moves on down the line.
