On Monday, Feb 28, 2000 the Texas Longhorns beat Kansas for the first time as a Big 12 opponent. I was at the game. I can't remember many details, but the atmosphere in the Erwin Center was incredible.
That atmosphere was helped by three things. First, this was Kansas, after all. That always gives the crowd a little extra juice. Second, this game had a clear enemy -- and that enemy was former Texas transfer Luke Axtell, who was at the center of the player mutiny that ended Tom Penders' time on the 40 acres.
And third, perhaps most importantly of all, the Texas Longhorns were starting to ball. It was Rick Barnes' second season as head coach, and it was his first truly outstanding team.
Over the last 13 years, there have been other games like this in the Erwin Center. Other games where the normally dull and sterile multi-use facility has come to life.
Today it is going to come to life again.
This is your game thread.
